To do this SCOPE organizes communities, develops leaders, collaborates through strategic alliances, builds capacity through training, and educates about policies that affect this mission.SCOPE believes that the economic problems of South Los Angeles can only be solved by building grassroots power among low-income communities of color and that together their voices play a critical role in ensuring that government works for everyone. The organization utilizes a multi-dimensional approach to achieve its mission that includes community organizing and leadership development; career-path job creation and economic development campaigns; strategic research and analysis; and training and capacity-building.Community Organizing and Leadership Development: Organizing an active base among community residents is the centerpiece of SCOPEs approach to addressing the root causes of poverty. Through the use of popular education and community dialogue, organizers develop the political consciousness, analytical skills, and leadership capacities of SCOPEs members. Policy Campaigns: SCOPE emphasizes career-path and workforce development campaigns targeting regional growth industries in Los Angeles as the primary strategy for eradicating poverty conditions. These campaigns have resulted in model economic and workforce development programs that resulted in quality career opportunities for low-income communities of color. Over the past two years SCOPE has been working on RePower LA that leverages the municipal retrofit campaign model to residential retrofits. The organization is currently developing a new revenue campaign to ensure that government has the ability to invest in local communities to create jobs and provide public services. Strategic Research and Analysis: The research department delivers critical information to inform and support SCOPE's policy campaigns; partners with academic institutions to produce cutting-edge research; and develops tools and trainings to build a politically conscious movement and ensure community participation.Training and Capacity Building: Training and capacity building is a major aspect of SCOPE's contribution to movement building by increasing the capacities of other organizations and alliances working with poor and disadvantaged communities.
