The Association staff met with state legislators and legislative staff to provide information on criminal defense issues, including procedural rules that would affect our practice and our ability to represent our clients effectively, and broaden criminal justice policy issues, in addition to adequate funding for public defense. Association attorneys met with state legislators and legislative staff to explain the adverse impact of proposed legislation on our clients. Association attorneys testified before legislative committees on proposed legislation as volunteers with the Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Washington Defenders Association about public defense funding needs with the goal of influencing budget legislation to adequately fund the defense function.
