The primary program is the Southern Arizona Regional Science and Engineering Fair. Each year, more than 75,000 Kindergarten through High School students throughout Southern Arizona create research projects at their own schools, with the goal of winning a spot at SARSEF. About 1,800 projects, representing more than 4,000 students, are chosen to compete at the TCC and from there, the best of the best are selected to honor. Over 400 judges and volunteers come choose the winning projects, requiring one week rental of the Convention Center, with resulting furniture rental, equipment installation, meals and supplies. Students are awarded 725 prizes and 16 scholarships at this event. 43850 The SciEnTeK-12 Foundation oversees the program that is the annual Math Science and Technology Funfest (MSTFF), which will be held at the Tucson Convention Center. Each year, more than 6,000 middle school students have the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities and interact with 80 STEM professionals at the Funfest. These experiences can help motivate students to continue on with their studies, so that they may one day choose a similar career path. 75015 SciEnTek-12 helps K-12 underrepresented students in Arizona to be successful in STEM including schools in rural settings, as well as poverty-stricken areas (as defined by the Federal Index of Free & Reduced Meals) through the Educational Outreach program. The focus on student populations that are underrepresented in the fields of science and technology, however no schools or student is turned down. The program helps students learn how to solve real-world problems and think critically since these are listed as skills highly valued by employers. Following the Scientific Method to conduct research for a project requires teaching students how to do it so the program teaches the steps. Members of the SciEnTeK-12 board of directors travel to schools throughout the state to provide free educational outreach and guidance and professional development for teachers, give classroom or school-wide presentations on the Scientific Method and research protocols to students, and hold informational science nights for parents, complete with handouts and materials for follow-up. 40485 International Science and Engineering Fair and International Sustainable World Energy Engineering Environment Project Olympiad are directly affiliated and supported by the SciEnTeK-12 Foundation.The Intel ISEF is the worldwide science fair including regional winners from every State and around 40 different countries. It is for High School students only and normally there are well over 1,500 projects at ISEF. This is the top prize at SARSEF awarding seven High School projects (either individual or team), and two 8th grade observers. The 8th Grade observer attends the Intel ISEF with a parent and attends all events, except the judging. The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, the Worlds largest international pre-college science competition, provides an annual forum for more than 1,500 high school students from about 70 countries, regions, and territories to showcase their independent research as they compete for over $3 million annually. The Intel ISEF is the premier global science competition for students in grades 9-12. ISWEEEP has strived and succeeded in increasing student interest in science, through classroom activities, research, and regional, state, and national tournaments. The tournaments are rigorous academic interscholastic competitions that consist of a series of individual and team events which students prepare for during the year. These challenging and motivational events are aligned with the national science standards and well-balanced between the various science disciplines of earth and space science, life science, physical science, technology and inquiry. ISWEEEP events are designed to use a variety of intellectual and practical skills.
