<Desc>Program Service-2013Give Light Foundation achieved two major milestones in 2013 with two new home constructions being completed; one in Sri Lanka and another one in Cambodia. In 2013, GiveLight supported more than 800 orphans in 11 countries with details as follow:1. Aceh, Indonesia A. Since 2005 GiveLight has been supporting orphans who are living in our loving home in Takengon Central Aceh, Indonesia. Most of the kids are highly motivated and have a deep love of learning. As always the kids are eager to learn new skills, especially English and Art. Because of their motivation and the dedication of our volunteers, the kids are making significant improvement in their ability to communicate in English, Arabic and Computer skills. Four of our kids are now in College, fifteen in High School, thirteen in Middle School and nine in Elementary school. B. Supporting orphans in Banda Aceh, Indonesia We continue to sponsor orphans who are living with poor relatives in Banda Aceh. The kids are doing well in school with some being top performers in school while the rest are eager to learn and become good citizens. Our staff monitored their progress by paying regular visits and sending volunteers to ensure the kids are cared for. The children also send letters and emails to our US team sharing pictures, positive progress and their live experiences. 2. Rawalpindi, Pakistan A. The orphanage in Rawalpindi has 40 girls all motivated to study to improve their future. Half of them are A+ students and the other half are B+. The girls are doing well academically and they are learning a lot of fun things such as taking Taekwondo classes, art lessons and growing their own organic garden and farm. One of the founders is living with his family next to the orphanage and the children are attached to him and his wife and they are seen as the caring grandparents. B. We continue to sponsor 160 orphans who are living with poor relatives/single moms in earthquake affected areas of Pakistan and Kashmir through a partnership with Helping Hands. 3. BangladeshWe sponsored one meal a day for 300 orphans in Darus Sunat, Bangladesh. These children were only having two meals prior to getting help from Give Light In 2013 GiveLight did a drive to raise funds for different homes, which enabled us to give these children special treats and new clothes. We also started construction of a new orphanage in Savar on land donated to Givelight by a generous family. This will be a home for 50 orphaned girls with an opening slated for Fall of 2014. 4. AfghanistanWe sponsored 17 orphans in Kabul through partnership with Omeid International. They currently live in a rented house because we don't feel it is secure to build a permanent home yet due to volatile political climate in Afghanistan. Our goal is to start small, save a few lives and learn our way to hopefully help more children every year. We also hope to build a permanent home one day when the political situation is more stable. 5. HaitiWe restarted sponsorship project in Haiti for 20 orphans through partnership with Helping Hands, a credible organization with good track record. We look forward to seeing positive growth in all the kids we are sponsoring in Haiti. 6. SomaliaWe continue sponsoring 100 orphans in Somalia and the kids are doing well academically. . Through this sponsorship, those kids are fed, clothed and able to get good education. We plan to continue this work in Somalia and expand to different countries in Africa, most notably Morocco. 7. Sri LankaOur beautiful home in Atulugama was inaugurated in March of 2013. Forty boys moved in and we send them to public school nearby. Using our success model in Aceh, we provide private tutoring for English and Quran. The boys are also very interested in the game of Cricket. We got a local artist to design their play room in such a lovely and inviting style. All done pro bono and with funds donated by a generous friend. 8. San Francisco Bay Area, California, United StatesWe continue to provide scholarship for 10 orphans living in the San Francisco Bay Area. These children go to Silicon Valley Academy and are doing much better academically compared to when they went to public schools. We provide each one of them with a mentor to ensure they have one on one attention. We also took them on a day trip to play in the snow. Many of them had never seen snow in their lives before so it was an unforgettable experience. 9. Cambodia Givelight opened another loving home called Noordeen in Cambodia. Twenty five boys and fifteen girls moved in to their new, loving ad clean home in July 2013. Many of them proved to be good students and they won many awards and certificate of recognition from their schools. Although they came from poverty many of them started to have big dreams of becoming doctors, engineers, lawyers. 10. MoroccoWe started sponsoring 17 orphans in Oujda Morocco since Jan 2013. These kids live with poor relatives and some with struggling single moms. One of the girls under our care is only 5 years old and suffered from diabetes. She's getting good care and our local team monitors her closely along with other kids. We are happy to see their progress and wish to continue supporting them for a long time.We received donated land to build our very first home in Africa on Jan 1st 2013. We partnered with the Department of Architecture from University of San Francisco to create the blueprint. We formed a strong local team in Casablanca who will help us implement our success model from Aceh home. FUTURE GOALS: Our goal for 2014-2016 is to expand our service to more countries where there are many orphans and we have identified trustworthy partners/volunteers. Specifically: a. Bangladesh: Completing the construction of our home by Fall of 2014 b. Morocco: We are hoping to begin construction in the fall of this year with target completion in spring of 2016. c. All other countries. We hope to standardize our processes in countries we operate especially in fine-tuning our operational philosophy as well as expansion strategies. As in the past 9 years, our volunteers remain motivated to donate their time, energy and expertise based on the shared vision of helping as many orphans as we can. From sponsoring 50 orphans in 2005, we have grown in manifold and are now supporting more than 800 + orphans and we are confident that we can save thousands more in the years to come.</Desc>
