<ExplanationTxt>AMOCA's collections include a permanent collection of art works. The Roger and Helen Porter Ceramic Library and various archival holdings.AMOCA's collections are held for public exhibition, education, or research as a public service rather than for financial gain; they are protected, kept unencumbered, cared for, and preserved; and are subject to a policy that requires the proceeds from sales (a rare occasion) of collection items to be used to acquire other items for the collections.</ExplanationTxt>

<FormAndLineReferenceDesc>Part III, Line 4: Description of organization's collections and how it furthers its purpose.</FormAndLineReferenceDesc>
<ExplanationTxt>AMOCA's 7,000 piece collection is international in scope from 960 A.D. to the present. It includes the works of such well known artists as Peter Voulkos, Paul Soldner, Ken Price, Beatrice Wood and Patti Warashina. Mid-20th Century American vessels and sculpture, Mexican Folk Art, and English pottery are among the collection's strengths. A large portion of the recently acquired German ceramics is now on permanent display. Additional information regarding the collection, including photographs is available on the AMOCA website. To date, AMOCA's collection has been acquired entirely through contributions. The collection is not recognized as an asset in the statement of financial position. Proceeds from any deacessions or insurance recoveries are required to be used to purchase other works of ceramic art. Each work or art is inventoried and cared for. Activities verifying the collections integrity are performed continuously. The Collections furthers its Exempt Purpose as follows:AMOCA makes its collection meaningful and attractive to a broad audience by presenting and interpreting the works of art through educational programs, special exhibitions, publications, conservation and research. AMOCA's Acquisitions Committee applies established criteria when determining whether to accession an object into one of three areas of the collection: 1) The permanent Collection consists of exemplary ceramic objects that are preserved for their historical and educational value. They may be used in exhibitions at AMOCA or lent for exhibitions at other art institutions. 2) The Resource Collection consists of ceramic objects that are more accessible for study or for inclusion in AMOCA's outreach programs. The objects may be available for hands-on study. 3) The library Collection consists of books, catalogs, magazines, archival materials, and other documentation related to AMOCA's collection and to the history of ceramic art.</ExplanationTxt>
