Through community building, education and public outreach, we trained hundreds of leaders and mobilized thousands of constituents in support of marriage equality. We trained volunteers to staff 3,700+ shifts to help educate the public about marriage equality. We were the lead organization in building a coalition of over 130 organizations working on Safe Schools. Our Anti-Violence Program trained more than 1,400 people throughout Minnesota, responded to almost 800 crime reports from LGBT crime victims, their friends and families, secured our first direct federal grant from the Office of Violence Against Women for $150,000 to be paid over two years to increase access for LGBT domestic violence and sexual violence survivors to mainstream programs throughout Minnesota, trained 16 Anti-Violence Program advocates to staff our crisis support line and to provide advocacy services to LGBT folks, and trained the entire St. Paul Police Department about LGBT issues (690 officers and staff). Our legal program advocated successfully with Minnesota Department of Human Rights to create an FAQ sheet regarding employee benefits in the wake of state-level marriage equality and the DOMA decision, offered multiple presentations within the Minnesota court system on issues of concern to the LGBT community, particularly transgender Minnesotans, responded to hundreds of requests for information, resources, or support from individuals, and for speaking engagements related to LGBT legal issues, and advocated successfully to provide coverage for gender-transition surgery within the student health plan in the MnSCU system. We sponsored the first annual Youth Summit with over 100 student leaders.
