Documents can also be seen on GuideStar.com This was the first full year of accounting for our new non-profit corporation. Consequently, there has been a learning curve with the preparation of financials that directly translate into the form 990. Also, because of the small size of our non-profit, we do not have a full-time dedicated accountant. Therefore, the program staff has been strained to complete research programs and complete filing requirements. To remedy this in the future, we are taking two clear steps. 1) As a result of this year's experience, we have established our QuickBooks accounting system to directly match 990 fields. 2) We have initiated procedures with an accounting firm to audit our books and our 990. This will lead to series of best practices and 990 preparation guidelines.
