<Explanation>$1600 in annual support given to Washington State Arts Alliance, a 501(c)(4) membership organization that is leading a statewide advocacy organization working to promote public funding, legislation and policy favorable to the arts. Additionally, Village Theatre participates in Arts Day at the State Capitol in Olympia each year. A staff person is sent to represent Village Theatre at a cost of approximately $300. The purpose of Arts Day is to provide one day that arts groups have a chance to meet with legislators and talk about arts issues in the current legislative session and cultural issues in our communities and schools. $6000 was given to Artsfund to help support efforts to create a sales tax initiative that would support arts in our region.</Explanation>

<Explanation>At the November board meeting the Board assigns responsibility for the formal review of the 990 to the finance committee and authorizes the executive committee to approve the return for filing. They also authorize the Executive Producer to sign the return. The formal review is scheduled for the January finance committee meeting. Any board members who are not members of the finance committee who are interested in the formal reviewing of the return are invited to attend the January finance committee meeting. Prior to the Janaury finance committee, management emails the completed return to all voting board members. Any feedback or comments are discussed and approved by the committee. The Treasurer leads the review process and the staff preparer, a licensed CPA, is on hand to answer questions. At the January executive committee meeting the finance committee recommends approval by the executive committee who is authorized to act on behalf of the full board. After approval by the executive committee, management electronically files the return with the IRS.</Explanation>

<Explanation>For the fiscal year ending 8/31/13, the executive committee of the Board of Directors of Village Theatre established an executive compensation and performance review committee. This committee meets twice a year with the Executive Producer and review goals and performance. The committee evalutes the CEO salaries at comparable theatres in the National Alliance for Musical Theatre survey and selected 990 tax returns for regional theatres in the Seattle area and around the country. The committee brings their compensation recommendation to the executive committee who then brings the CEO's compensation package to the full Board for a vote. Other key employees salaries are presented at the finance committee for review as part of the annual budgeting process which is approved by the full Board.</Explanation>
