All the food produced on the farms is distributed on a sliding scale basis at our Saturday farm stand. In an area where access to healthy foods is limited, it is our farms that make it possible for many families to eat fresh vegetables rather than processed foods. The program creates sustainable food systems that provide affordable, nutritious food directly to traditionally underserved populations in West Oakland. In 2013, the program distributed 9,340 pounds of produce, serving 1,687 people; cultivated 64,800 square feet of land; and propagated 28,300 plants in our greenhouse. 174341 15785 Backyard Garden Program - The Backyard Garden Program builds food self-sufficiency by empowering low-income households to grow fresh produce where they live. Households interested in growing their own food apply to this free program. Our staff then tests their soil for contaminants. Based upon the soil analysis and what the household wants to grow, the household gardeners and City Slicker Farms build a garden, complete with two planter boxes, a fruit tree, plants, and seeds. Backyard Gardeners are partnered with a garden mentor to support them through two years of growing food for the table. After one year of participation, experienced Backyard Gardeners are recruited to provide paid or volunteer mentorship to newer Backyard Gardeners. In 2013, the program built new gardens for 32 Backyard Gardeners and 12 childcare sites; provided 19 existing Backyard Gardeners with add-on services including additional garden boxes, irrigation systems, and fruit trees; supported 182 households and childcare sites, or an estimated 1,694 individuals, to grow their own food; provided 760 hours of technical assistance to Backyard Gardeners and childcare sites; and equipped Backyard Gardners and childcare sites with the resources to grow an estimated 25,000 pounds of produce. 72014 Urban Farming Education Program - Since its inception, City Slicker Farms has been closing the knolwedge and skills gap to enable individuals and communities to grow their own food. The Urban Farming Education Program offers participants a variety of approaches and commitment levels ranging from drop-in volunteer hours to a full year of training. The Urban Farming Education Program provides the following opportunities: Allyships, Youth Internships, Farm Tours and Service Learning, Community-Based Workshops and Volunteering. Copies of the draft Form 990 and 199 will then be distributed to the Board of Directors in either electronic or paper form for review no less than ten (10) days before the forms are filed. If any questions or concerns arise from the Board of Directors review, the Executive Director will bring these up to the Finance Committee, make any necessary changes based on the Committees recommendations.After all input has been appropriately addressed, the final version of the Form 990 (with required schedules) and 199 will be distributed to every member of the City Slicker Farms Board of Directors prior to filing with the IRS. The final form may be distributed either in paper or electronic form in any manner deemed appropriate by the Executive Director.After the final version of the Form 990 has been distributed pursuant to the above paragraph, the Executive Director will cause the final Form 990 to be filed as required.
