This program worked on 2,763 cases in 260 days. 2636470 Maintaining Economic Stability (Government Benefits, Employment and Consumer Law): advocates assisted clients to obtain unemployment benefits, disability, aid to needy families/children/individuals and other benefits which preserve a source of income and support for families and individuals; and assisted clients with consumer issues threatening basic economic stability, e.g., consumer fraud, credit, and access to financial resources; job development, training and education issues; wage claims and employment discrimination; removing barriers to employment. This program woked on 3,020 cases in 260 days. 815385 LAFLA's Asian and Pacific Islander(API) Community Outreach Unit was created in the 1990s to address the growing needs of the increasing numbers of APIs in Los Angeles County, currently at 13% of the population. LAFLA conducts 14 API community legal clinics per month, in collaboration with Korean American Family Services, Koreatown Youth and Community Center, Korean Resource Center, Korean American Bar Association, Chinatown Service Center, Asian Americans Advancing Equality Los Angeles, Southern California Chinese Lawyers Association, and Asian Youth Center. LAFLA also has dedicated language lines in Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, and Khmer, covered by bilingual staff who conduct intake. LAFLA has been nationally and locally recognized for its work serving limited-English proficient clients and communities. 508088 The Veterans Justice Center (VJC) is a special program of the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles. VJC strives to protect veterans and their families by securing government benefits and medical care as well as removing legal barriers to housing and employment. VJC provides advocacy on behalf of low-income veterans seeking VA benefits and in a range of civil legal issues including government benefits, housing and eviction defense, citation defense, family law, employment law, and consumer law matters. The VJC continues LAFLA's commitment to veterans that began in 2000 when it formed the Bill Smith Homeless Veterans Project. The focus of the newly launched VJC is to protect low-income veterans and their families and to serve clients in all civil legal areas, including government benefits, housing and eviction defense, citation defense, family law, employment law, and other consumer law matters. The VJC will employ a holistic approach; combining the skills of attorneys and social workers working together to address the complex social and legal needs of veterans and their families. At VJC, an experienced team will advocate for veterans to receive the benefits they deserve, as well as provide them with a range of civil legal and social services. 69840 The Greater Long Beach Medical Legal Partnership (GLBMLP) is an alliance between The Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles and the Long Beach Children's Clinic that recognizes that medically vulnerable families may need legal services to be healthy just as much as they need medical care. At the GLBMLP, health care providers work in tandem with legal aid attorneys and social workers to address the underlying social and economic determinants of overall health, particularly in the area of family violence and childhood exposure to violence. Now in it's third year, the GLBMP has provided free legal services and emotional support to more than 220 vulnerable children and their families, particularly in the area of family violence and
