FISH's Mobile Food Bank visits different locations weekly, primarily schools in the Bethel, Clover Park and Tacoma School Districts.In 2013, FISH Food Banks served 560,188 individuals, or more than 141,000 families. Since 2008, the community's need for food distribution through FISH has increased 137%.Our goal is to provide each client enough nutritious food to make at least three meals a day for three days. Clients are able to "shop" for the foods that best meet the needs of their families. No one in need is turned away.Because so many food bank clients need more food, FISH offers wraparound services: Connection Centers offers a single access point for dozens of community resources; nutrition; education; preventive health services; clothing banks provide free clothing and limited household goods at two food banks; a backpack program at one food bank provides food for children in need and their families during the weekend; and advocacy as a form of self-empowerment.FISH Food Banks are committed to making the most effective use of the funds and food donated. For every dollar donated, FISH is able to distribute seven dollars worth of food. Shelves were stocked in 2013 with more than seven million pounds of donated food. Our average cost per meal is just 23 cents.
