The workshops were an immersive experience, with instructors and participants staying on site and approximately a 4:1 participant to instructor ratio. After the workshop, each participant received six phone sessions or online hangouts with a CFAR instructor to work on implementing the techniques in their daily lives. These nine workshops included workshops in Australia, England, and New York. CFAR also presented shorter versions of its introductory rationality training at two shorter workshops and the 2014 Effective Altruism Summit.CFAR ran several events for alumni, designed to help participants build a deeper understanding of and greater facility with some areas of rationality, and to support the development of a larger community of people focused on developing rationality skills. The largest event was a three-day reunion attended by over 100 alumni, at which staff and alumni gave short conference-style presentations on their latest thinking about rationality. CFAR also ran five smaller 1-2 day alumni workshops, one focused on epistemic rationality for effective altruists, one on attention, two on how to assist others in developing rationality skills, and one on identifying and addressing the most important issues in ones life. There were also regular alumni evening events at the CFAR office approximately once per week, including a rationality dojo focused on skills training and a colloquium focused on sharing ideas.CFAR also ran the third annual Summer Program for Applied Rationality and Cognition (SPARC), a two-week program aimed at mathematically talented high school students to introduce them to methods of bridging between their mathematical skills and strong practical decision-making skills. 41 students attended SPARC, including 12 who had attended in previous years. SPARC was held on the University of California Berkeley campus.
