<Desc>Program Service-2014Give Light Foundation continued to enjoy a healthy growth in2014 with one more home completed in Savar, Bangladesh. In 2014, GiveLight supported more than 800 orphans in 10 countries with details as follow:1. Aceh, Indonesia A. Our Founder, Dian Alyan spent one whole week at our Acehhome along with a US volunteer Laura Caskey and anothervolunteer from Jakarta, Eva Wahab. They did manyeducational programs for the kids including holdingcompetition for the kids in different areas such as English,Math, Speech and Art. They also took the kids on many funoutdoor activities such as swimming in the lake, hiking, andpicnic. The kids showed high motivation to learn new skills, especially English and Art. In 2014 we had a total ofsix volunteers who went and taught different skill setsincluding book binding, Martial Art, French and cooking.Four of our kids are in College and on track for graduationin 2015. Fifteen in High School, fourteen in Middle Schooland eight in Elementary school.B. Supporting orphans in Banda Aceh, IndonesiaWe continue to sponsor orphans who are living with poorrelatives in Banda Aceh . The kids are doing well in schooland some were top performers in school while the rest areeager to learn and become good citizens. Our staffmonitored their progress by paying regular visits and sending volunteers to ensure the kids are cared for. The children also send letters and emails to our US teamsharing pictures, positive progress and their liveexperiences.2. Rawalpindi, PakistanA. The orphanage in Rawalpindi has established astrong model and is able to find supporters to befinancially independent. We handed over funding andmanagement to our partner in Dec 2014. This will allow us tofocus on expansion to areas where the needs are more urgent.B. We continue to sponsor 160 orphans who are living withpoor relatives/single moms in earthquake affected areas ofPakistan and Kashmir through partnership with Helping Hands.3. BangladeshWe sponsored one meal a day for 300 orphans in DarusSunat, Bangladesh. These children were only having twomeals prior to getting help from Give Light. In summer 2014we sponsored new clothes for each of 300 boys and receivedpictures showing their happiness. After many years of working to get the permit and navigatingthe corruption in Bangladesh, we proudly completed our homein Savar. We have 27 girls and they are of 7-12 yearsof age. The home also includes a school and we have 3teachers and 2 care takers who live at the home. Ourgoal is to establish a high quality school that will beaccredited by the government. Our long term goal is to sendall the girls to College the way we do in our first home.Aceh.4. AfghanistanWe continued to sponsor 11 orphans from Kabul throughpartnership with Omeid International. In 2014 and 2015 they get scholarship to study abroad in India. Our goal is to start small, save a few lives and learn our way to hopefully help more children every year. We also hope to build a permanent home one day when political situation is more stable and if we get donate land to be consistent with our model in other countries5. HaitiWe restarted sponsorship project in Haiti for 20 orphansthrough partnership with Helping Hands, a credibleorganization with good track record. We look forward toseeing positive growth in all the kids we are sponsoring inHaiti.6 SomaliaWe continue sponsoring 50 orphans in Somalia and thekids are doing well academically. Through this sponsorship, those kids are fed, clothed and able to get good education. We plan to continue this work in Somalia andexpand to different countries in Africa, most notably Morocco. 7. Sri LankaOur founder Dian Alyan spent a week at our beautiful home inAtulugama, which was inaugurated in March 2013. Sheheld a cricket tournament for forty boys and the whole village came to watch. There were trophies and lunch celebration following the successful first tournament. Thenext day she took the kids on an hour bus ride to a beach in Colombo. The kids also participated in Speech, Art and Singing competition. The kids got to enjoy the special play room to compete ingames of chess and other board games. They are alsoallowed to watch a bit of Television on weekends. Some kids have shown amazing progress in English althoughtheir native language is Tamil and Singles.8. San Francisco Bay Area, California, UnitedStatesWe continue to provide scholarship for 10 orphans living inthe San Francisco Bay Area. These children go to SiliconValley Academy and are doing much better academicallycompared to when they went to public schools. We provideeach one of them with a mentor to ensure they have one onone attention. We also take them on a day trip to play onthe snow. Many of them had never seen snow in their livesbefore so it was an unforgettable experience.9. CambodiaGivelight opened another loving home in Cambodia in 2013 andour founder had the chance to visit during summer 2014.Another US volunteer joined her. Together they did a lot offun activities with the kids including art, reading, singingand telling jokes. When asked most of them are shy to talk about themselves. After a few hours of doing art, they started to open up. Although they came from poverty many of them are brave to state big dreams of becoming doctors, engineers, lawyers and scholars.10. MoroccoWe started sponsoring 17 orphans in Oujda Morocco since Jan2013. These kids live with poor relatives and some withstruggling single moms. One of the girls under our care isonly 5 years old and suffered from diabetes. She's gettinggood care and our local team monitors her closely along withother kids. We are happy to see their progress and wish tocontinue supporting them for a long time.We partnered with the Department of Architecture fromUniversity of San Francisco to create the blueprint. Weformed a strong local team in Casablanca who will help usimplement our success model from Aceh home. In 2014 wecompleted the blueprint, submitted the application forpermit and awaiting government approval, which could takemonths. Our hope is to start construction in 2015.FUTURE GOALS:Our goal for 2015-2017 is to expand our service to morecountries where there are many orphans and we haveidentified trustworthy partners/volunteers. Specifically: a. Bangladesh. Completed the construction of ourhome in Dec 2014. Now we need to secure good teachers andcurriculum for the schoolsb. Morocco. We are hoping to beginconstruction in 2015 with completion in Winter 2016c. All other countries. We hope tostandardize our processes in countries we operate especiallyin fine-tuning our operational philosophy as well asexpansion strategies.d. Nepal. With recent tragedy in Nepal we plan tobegin sponsorship or orphans with a longer term goal to renta facility and take in 30-40 orphans. As in the past 10 years, our volunteers remain motivated todonate their time, energy and expertise based on the sharedvision of helping as many orphans as we can. Fromsponsoring 50 orphans in 2005, we have grown in manifold andare now supporting more than 800 + orphans and we areconfident that we can save thousands more in the years.</Desc>
