      <PrimaryExemptPurposeTxt>The organization's purpose is to support the basic humanitarian needs (food, water, shelter, education and hope) of vulnerable children in rural areas of Africa.</PrimaryExemptPurposeTxt>
      <ProgramSrvcAccomplishmentGrp>
        <DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>Sustainability1. Just One: Africa raised funds to prepare the school building for electricity and then partnered with another organization to bring electricity to the orphanage and farm in Bondo. We had Kenya Power wire the 30' by 60' school building for outlets and lighting fixtures. We worked with the other organization to complete this project bringing power poles and running the connecting wires to the school building and orphanage. This is a huge step in the right direction; bringing them closer to sustainability and allowing for other income generating projects to move forward.2. One of Just One: Africa's income generating projects is the Salem Bakery at Salem Orphanage. It has continued to grow due to the arrival of electricity. The large industrial mixer is now in full use allowing them to mix bread much more efficiently than by hand. This expedites production of the bread resulting in more loaves, rolls, and specialty items, thus increasing the output and therefore their income. There is a great demand for the bakery items and word has spread as the quality is excellent and price point is competitive. They are still using the motor bike to distribute to town as well as areas farther out increasing market opportunities. This sustainability project has created local jobs, bread for the orphans, and additional income that can be used for medical, educational, along with other food needs. 3. Just One: Africa efforts allowed for a rain catchment system to be installed on the 30' by 60' school building in Bondo featuring a 10,000 liter tank which has the capacity to capture the large amount of water that can fall in a short time. This water is mostly used for the washing of the orphan's clothes and the remainder is now available for watering crops. Since this tank is positioned at the top of the property, it eliminates the need for pumping water up from the lake to irrigate crops resulting in a reduced amount of resources necessary rather than relying strictly on the gas powered water pump.Education1. Just One: Africa provides monthly educational support to Salem Orphanage in Bondo as well as to Lenkai Christian School in Kimana. Both of these locations have a large number of children who otherwise would not be able to go to school without our vital educational support. 2. In 2013 the brick school building construction in Bondo began and in 2014 doors, windows, cement floors, light fixtures, and a final cement coats on the interior and exterior walls were added. Utilizing Just One: Africa funds, electricity has been added so that that teachers and students can see to teach and learn and also allowing it to be functional more hours each day. 3. Lenkai Christian School in Kimana was in desperate need of a multi-purpose building due to the growing student body. Just One: Africa raised necessary funds for a 70' by 40' multi-purpose building that will be used as a location for school assemblies, a concert hall for their budding music program, a dining hall, an educational facility for the community, and a play area for the kids during inclement weather. It is equipped with electricity allowing it to truly function in many different ways. This building can also be rented out as it is one of the largest halls in the area providing a sustainable income for the school.4. We held 3 teacher training workshops at Salem Academy in Kisumu, Lenkai Christian School in Kimana and Salem School in Bondo led by two volunteer teachers /JOA supporters from the States. Just One: Africa hand-delivered donated educational resources which were obtained from local US teacher supporters happy to share their materials with fellow teachers in Kenya. These are hard-found, precious tools to Kenyan teachers. The training and resources will allow more effective teaching which provides an important foundation for a quality education. 5. Just One: Africa organized a school supply drive at several local U.S. schools. As a result of this drive, dozens of boxes of donated, high quality educational materials were distributed to students in these three schools. Supplies such as these will allow the students to have the resources needed to move forward with their studies. With access to education and the proper tools, the student's time investments in their educational pursuits will pay off exponentially as they grow. With a solid education behind them, they will have the ability to remove themselves from the poverty cycle.6. Music Program: Just One: Africa was able to add many more instruments to this growing program and we couldn't be more proud of the students and staff for how they have expanded the music curriculum and production with excellence. Two keyboards, 6 violins, numerous music charts and music stands were added as funds came in to move this awesome opportunity forward. There is a phenomenal teacher that drives from Nairobi to teach these students. He is well-versed in music theory as well as multiple instruments. His passion and wonderful spirit bring life and a new love of the learning of music. This program will open up opportunities for the students to have a scholarship to university. Clean WaterIn Kenya many people have access to water, but it is not clean which results in tremendous problems with water-borne disease. Just One: Africa provides Sawyer filters capable of filtering 1 million gallons with the added benefit of requiring no replacement parts. Each filter provides clean water for up to 25 people for life. Our follow-up has shown that in just a matter of a few weeks, health dramatically improved, and deaths from water-borne diseases declined radically. We are dedicated to work to provide this clean water so that healthy children may return to school and well parents can continue in their jobs and families we impact can thrive. 1. We launched our recycled paper bead bracelet program. This provides immediate income to Kenyan women who make the beads. We partner with clubs, business and individuals who volunteer in the States to help string the beads into bracelets which are sold and allow 100% of the profits to provide water filters to people in Kenya.2. We launched our already successful online store where our bracelets and other branded merchandise are sold across the country. 3. We distributed 520 (our goal for the year was 500) Sawyer water filters and trained the recipients on sanitation best practices and simple ways to keep their families healthy. These filters provided clean water to 13,000 people in Kisumu, Bondo, Kimana, Loitokitok and Amboseli. Each of these areas has access to water, but it is contaminated which causes catastrophic problems due to water-borne disease. We worked with local leaders to identify the neediest people in these areas and specifically inquired about ones caring for children so that we knew best where to focus our initial efforts. 4. We trained our local partners to distribute the filters, train the recipients, and demonstrate sanitation best practices. This allows us to send the filters unaccompanied as now we do not need to be present at all distributions. Thus Just One: Africa can effectively distribute far more filters that we could if distribution relied on us being there.</DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>
