<Desc>On October 2013, a 7.2-magnitude earthquake shook the province of Bohol, creating fear and chaos. In 2014, with the overwhelming generosity of partners facilitated by the GK Miami Team (10 homes) and COVO Hawaii (20 homes), GK USA funded 30 new homes for the families affected by the earthquake ($118,114). On Nov. 8, 2013, super typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) made landfall in the Philippines, causing widespread grief and devastation. With strong winds and a storm surge that collapsed infrastructure, cut power and communication, exhausted supplies, destroyed sources of livelihood and took away thousands of lives, Typhoon Haiyan unleashed a fury like the world had never seen before, one quite literally blew away almost the whole of the Visayas islands. The public and private sectors, the Filipinos and the international community, have come together to turn this calamity into one of the countrys biggest staging of Bayanihan, heroism and hope. In 2014, GK USAs many ge generous partners have funded 211 homes for Typhoon Haiyan victims. Kudos to our GK USA teams in CA, NV, TX, OK, IL, MI, FL, NC, VA, MD, NY, NJ and MA. Included in these villages are homes supported by AARP, COVO Hawaii, Credit-Suisse, Saladmaster, University of Santo Tomas Medical School Alumni, San Diego Lions Club, Barclay Family, Olaes Family, Martin Family, Port Arthur Beaumont Southeast Texas Associates and other numerous generous partners. In addition, through the efforts of GK USA teams in CA, TX, OK, IL, MI and NJ, 120 more homes were funded in over 12 different communities in the Philippines to assist families living in slum environments, exposed to serious sanitary and health issues, high criminality rates, and other negative forces that further degrade their dignity as human beings. To assist one GK community, a center was built to house computers, as well as a venue for livelihood training programs through partnerships with trade org.</Desc>

<Desc>Child and Youth Development ProgramThis program nurtures and develops the young through an age-specific, values-based program that helps them reach their fullest potential. Many poor children are unable to attend school and enjoy studying because they have to scavenge for food or work very early in life to help their families. The children of GK beneficiaries, who are actively participating as members of the SIGA youth program in GK, aspire to have a good future and this can be achieved through quality education. In their own vision of helping their families, they wish to acquire a college degree so that they can help their parents and their families. Hence, these future college student entrants would like to avail of a scholarship program that will enable them to study in a college or university. Through a WA couples ongoing support, this program was able to provide 10 college scholarships. In addition, teachers salaries were also funded in one community.</Desc>
