All activities of the organization work to support these goals. 0 0 Supporting Public-Private Partnerships - For decades, government-funded scientists have engaged in research into plasma physics and fusion energy. The FIA advocates for private fusion companies to have access to that scientific research, with the scientists, institutions, and scientific products produced. Furthermore, the Public-Private Partnerships that include government support to private fusion companies can rapidly accelerate fusion development by driving private financial support. The FIA works to support public-private partnerships that will allow direct engagement between private fusion industry and scientists. Regulatory Engagement: Fusion power plants will be subject to regulation by the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission and State regulators when built. How those regulations are designed and implemented will have a material impact on the costs and timescales for building power plants and driving investment. Likewise, ensuring that fusion experiments and power plants pose the minimum risk to the public is of paramount importance to the industry. Therefore, a key priority of the FIA is to directly engage with regulators in a transparent manner as they determine appropriate, risk-informed regulation for the industry. External Communications: Ensuring that stakeholders and policymakers know about the importance of clean, safe, affordable, and secure fusion energy to the future energy system is a key part of the FIA's exempt mission. The process includes all of these elements: (1) review and approval by the Board of Directors or Compensation Committee of the Organization; (2) use of data as to comparable compensation; and (3) contemporaneous documentation and record keeping. Form 990, Part VI, Section A, line 6 The FIA is a membership organization that supports efforts to accelerate commercial fusion energy through advocacy and education. Membership is open to all organizations that support the mission and are actively engaging in research or developing fusion energy systems. Continuing Membership is contingent upon being up to date on Membership dues of the organization. All applicants shall, as a condition of Membership, agree to comply with FIA's Code of Ethics as approved by the Board of Directors. Form 990, Part VI, Section A, line 7a Members wishing to nominate a board member must be a qualified voting Member and pay dues at the level of Board Membership set annually by the Board of Directors. Form 990, Part VI, Section A, line 7b Members are required to vote at the annual meeting on a slate of Directors nominated to serve on the Board. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 11b Each member of the Board of Directors receives a copy of the 990 via email, and is then given a chance to ask questions and raise concerns over a reasonable time period. The Board then votes to approve submission at an extraordinary meeting.
