The temporary restricted portion of the endowment funds on the audited financial statements is the investment income earned on the permanent endowments utilized for expenditures based on the donor documents. Part X, Line 2: The Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that is exempt from federal income taxes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Therefore, no provision for federal income taxes has been made in the accompanying financial statements. The Foundation has also been classified as an entity that is not a private foundation within the meaning of Section 509(a) and qualifies for deductible contributions as provided in Section 170(b)(1)(A)(VI) of the Internal Revenue Code. In June 2006, the FASB issued Interpretation No. 48, Accounting for Uncertainty in Income Taxes (FIN 48), which clarifies the accounting for uncertainty in income tax positions recognized in the financial statements in accordance with FASB Statement No. 109, Accounting for Income Taxes. FIN 48 prescribes a recognition threshold and measurement of a tax position taken or expected to be taken in a tax return. Effective June 30, 2009, the Foundation adopted FIN 48. The adoption of FIN 48 did not have a material impact on the Foundation's consolidated financial position or results of operation. FIN 48 and FASB 109 were incorporated into FASB Accounting Standards Codification (ASC) 740. The payment of benefits under the program, if any, is entirely dependent upon the facts and circumstances under which the executive terminates employment with the Organization. Due to the substantial risk of forfeiture provision, there is no guarantee that these executives will ever receive any benefit under the program. O'Neil - $321,384 Part II: Description of Compensation: Executive compensation, in keeping with Ascension Health's philosophy, is in line with the national average. Compensation may include short or long term incentive pay, deferred compensation, PTO (vacation/holiday) converted to cash, etc. The retirement and/or departure of several executives with long tenures, some more than 30 years, represents significant increases in usual compensation for these individuals. Executives whose positions were eliminated or who left during the year similarly received compensation they elected to defer compensation and other benefits payouts. The departure of long-time associate and CEO Curtis James resulted in significant expenses related to compensation he elected to defer during his more than three decades with the Organization, as well as long/short term incentives, PTO (vacation/holiday) converted to cash, and other compensation.
