      <Desc>SustainabilityBuilding Projects- Salem Orphanage - Two dormitories were completed with bathrooms and showers, as well as a much-needed office.- Salem Academy School - New cement floors were poured and tiled, 4 toilets were built, and proper ventilation was added in 10 classrooms.- Lenkai Christian School - Saw the completion of a large multipurpose building with an attached music room (started in 2014). This year electrical capability was added to it as well as security lights throughout the campus. JOA was able to drill a borehole (deep water well) and provide piping to irrigate 4 acres of crops. Funds made it possible to install a large water tank and then build a store for selling water. JOA made it possible to build a kitchen/bakery. We also provided 6 more bunk beds and bedding for the rescue center.Income Generating Projects- Borehole - which allows for selling of water to community. In addition, funds previously spent on purchasing water are now thankfully redirected given water can now be provided for themselves. - Kitchen/Bakery - produces baked goods for sale to the community and availability of baked food to the families at the school.- Multipurpose Building - rented out for fees for weddings, government meetings, and other community events. A much desired and needed amenity for the community.- Agriculture - crops are being grown all year round thanks to a consistent water source via the borehole allowing citizens to be self-sufficient in providing food for over 250 children at the school and rescue center. Additional crops can now be sold to the community when before they relied on the rains and many seasons the crops failed; the borehole now makes Lenkai Christian School a sought-after source for clean water and reliable nutritious food.- Chicken coop - raised funds for a chicken coop project impact 250 widows caring for over 1000 children. Income from eggs and chickens sold to the community is now being made. Thanks to the donated incubators from the government, there is an increased number of hatched chicks, which allows the women to grow their flocks. Eggs will also provide much needed nutritious food for the children they care for. - Dignity Kits for Girls - these kits are designed to give the girls the tools they need to stay in school during their menstrual cycle so they don't have to miss a week of school each month. Before the girls would often fall behind and ultimately drop out of school. We had teams of women in the U.S. making hundreds of these kits to take with us to secondary school in Kenya. The sanitary kits have helped us launch this project also as an income-generating project. We are working with a talented seamstress who has a vision for this project in not only helping the young girls, but also in generating small businesses for women. We have seen healthy growth as she has learned the pattern and is now teaching it to others. She is resourcing local materials and finding what is needed to make this a thriving scalable business.Education Projects- Supporting 15 Teacher salaries- Covering student labs and exams fees- Donating high quality educational materials given by U.S. schools- Leading collaborative teacher trainings which were held three times a year from U.S. teachers to enrich, equip, and encourage Kenyan teachers.- Educational Sponsorships - Just One Africa is working with our partners to identify the children with the greatest need of support and match them with sponsors who can help with education, medical, housing, and food costs. This matching creates an opportunity for individuals and families to learn about the world around them and have meaningful avenues to care for others. Health Projects - 3 medical clinics with access to nurses, doctors, and life-saving medicines (Kisumu 350 people served, Seme 625 people served, Loitokitok 85 people served)Notes: Sustainability is a foundational value Just One Africa has in our work with local leaders in Kenya. For example, the creation of a large kitchen also doubles as an income-generating bakery. These realities made possible by Just One Africa donors provide the opportunities needed to grow their streams of income. Our amazing partners in Kenya can now move more securely toward providing for the needs of all the vulnerable children they care for. So much joy and hope has come from equipping our dedicated, remarkable local leaders. They work diligently running a school and rescue center, growing their own food for the school lunch program, and overseeing staff while managing income brought in through bread sales. Empowering them with viable avenues to reinvest those resources builds an even stronger foundation for the school and rescue center, which is what Just One Africa is all about!Just One Africa continues to become fiscally strong so that we can be a vital part of blessing Kenyan communities with life-changing projects. Some examples of the impact made this year include investment in a multitude of educational programs, building a multi-purpose building and music room at a primary school, completing a much-needed boarding facility at an orphanage, drilling of a borehole that will provide clean water for a school and community for years to come, as well as implementing food-yielding agriculture projects.Another exciting future implementation is the Just One Africa Chicken Coop Program that was inspired during our meeting with a large group of widows in Western Kenya this past year. With their vision and donors' generous support, our successful year-end campaign allowed JOA to provide funding for the initial installment of chicken coops! This important program will empower the widows to take charge of their future like never before and to secure the opportunity of education, as well as food and housing for the children they care for. This project is being undertaken in partnership with the Great Lakes Foundation as they will provide direct oversight and reporting to us on the ground. The foundation is made up of representatives from several areas and are all highly educated individuals who have a passion and desire to equip their own people to overcome poverty and see change happen just one life at a time. Clean Water- Number of filters - 1200 Filters impacting over 30,000 PeopleJanuary - 200 (10 Kisumu , 40 Bondo, 50 Echoes of Mercy, 100 to Kimana)June - 400 (300 Kimana, 100 Kisumu and Bondo)November - 600 (400 Kimana, 100 Kendu Bay, 100 Bondo)- Follow-up Program - Beta testing of our follow up program in Western and Southern Kenya. This important process makes it now easier to analyze with an app that was specifically created to tract pre- and post-distribution data so that JOA can carefully monitor our success and make any adjustments in the areas in which we serve.- We are also using a paper system so that we have a hard copy, but we are testing an app that allows us to capture the GPS location of the filters. Adding all the info into the app allows it to be uploaded and shared in a cloud based system that is accessible anywhere in the world.- Notes: The JOA Clean Water Program saw an incredible increase in 2015, distributing 200 water filters OVER our original 1000 goal! Our goals were exceeded because of our donors' consistent support and was also made possible by the purchases of our recycled paper jewelry that helps to fund our Clean Water Program.- Bracelet program - our Recycled Paper Bracelet Program continues to thrive and be a very significant support to our Clean Water Program. It provides sustainable income to the Masai mamas from whom we purchase the beads and also provides volunteer opportunities for young people, corporate team building, and others as they help us to string the beads into bracelets. There are now many established Just One Africa clubs in our local schools here in the U.S. with even more being started in the 2016-2017 school year. Scout troops and other local groups also schedule with us for stringing events from week to week. We are able to share the Just One Africa vision as well as educate young people about the needs and challenges in the areas in which we serve.Vulnerable Children Monthly Support- Salem Orphanage - $24,000 (Operations, Education and Food)- Lenkai Christian School - $12,000 (Operations)</Desc>
      <ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp>
        <Desc>Volunteers- Administrative - 2 regular- Schools and Clubs - working with over 15 local elementary, middle, and high schools on a monthly basis to string our recycled paper beads. This partnership has allowed us to share our story and serve with over 1000 students locally. - Events - Just One Africa has participated in over a dozen local community events sharing our story and selling our products that help fund our Clean Water and Sustainability Programs- Intern - We had the pleasure of working with a fabulous intern over her Winter Break who was a junior at Samford University majoring in nonprofit management. She helped us research, design, develop, and produce multiple new lines of products that were extremely popular at local vendor events. She also worked with us in local schools facilitating our service projects.- We have had well over 75 volunteers outside of students volunteering hundreds of hours to help Just One Africa with our service projects, products development, educational school programs, fundraisers, etc. We put on a first ever Volunteer Thank You Dinner for over 60 people who had participated in supportig Just One Africa in a volunteer capacity. It was a special night to celebrate the impact they have helped us create and also share the vision for the upcoming year.</Desc>
