This facility serves as Clinical training and Referral Center for the Kono District. Historically it provided specialized care for pregnant women, children and HIV patients, and has the most sophisticated laboratory and radiology services in the District. In FYH14-15, WA dedicated its resources to fighting the country-wide Ebola crisis. The first cases of Ebola in Sierra Leone were identified in the middle of 2014. Eventually there were 8,706 confirmed cases in the country with 3,956 deaths. The crisis was considered over in the middle of 2015. This staff has been trained on how to monitor projects and budgets and meeting work quality standards and Grant charts deadlines. WAs Co-Founder and Chair of the Board as well as the Executive Director will continue to work part-time for Wellbody Alliance, although at a much reduced level and as volunteers. WA-US current Accountant will remain with WA and monitor the flow of funds for as long as WA exists. Through email, often with attached documents, and telephone calls, using Skype, Wellbody Alliance and PIH-SL will closely monitor the projects integrated with PIH-SL. They also will periodically visit Kono for a more thorough inspection. Monitoring reports will be written by PIH and sent to the donors throgh WA. Additional Information for Schedule I Partners in Health (PIH) responded to the extremely poor quality of health care in Sierra Leone in 2015, soon after the beginning of West Africas Ebola Crisis. PIH has provided over 20 years of experience addressing health care needs in poor countries with underdeveloped health care systems in the midst of a crisis. At this time, PIH was already operational in 10 countries including Haiti, Rwanda, Lesotho, Peru, Malawi, and Russia. In 2015, PIH had raised almost $200 million to address health care in the areas it served and spent $17 million on programs in Sierra Leone (39.5% of all the PIHs expenditures on program services). PIH was operating under many of the sames policies that Wellbody Alliance was. Both organizations believed that quality health care was a human right to be advanced through an inclusive, effective and enduring community and facility-based health care system. Each patient was to be treated with respect and at the same level of quality as those in more developed countries received. During this past year, PIH had significantly more experience, finances, and staffing than Wellbody Alliance. While the Ebola crisis was subsiding, many of the previous health care issues remained (and some got worse with the attention having been focused more on Ebola issues in the past few years. PIH made a policy decision to remain in Sierra Leone for the indefinite future to try to improve the general quality of health care in the country. PIH (a much larger organization than WA)formed a coalition with Wellbody Alliance to work together minimizing the causes that allowed Ebola to spread so quickly (and other causes of suchy poor health care). At the same time, some of the key WA founders and managers could no longer continue to devote the amount of time to WA that they had been over the past several years. The Co-Founder and Chair of the Board needed to spent more time in UC-San Francisco medical school working on this infectious Diseases Fellowship. The Executive Director had already extended his deferment to attend medical school beyond that was originally granted. With the significantly increased work effort being done by PIH and WA, the staffs of each organization needed to be better integrated. The clinical and management staffs of PIH and WA in Kono will remain the same within a unified organizational structure in which Wellbodys Medical Director and community-based Program Managers will report to PIHs national leadership in Sierra Leone.Accordingly, Wellbody Alliance will cease active and Independent U.S. operations and will no longer accept separate donations to support the work in Kono. Donations tu support Wellbody programs should be sent directly to PIH.With WA-US no longer accepting contributions and WA-SL being integrated into a unified PIH-SL and WA-SL organization, the new PIH-SL organization needed additional financing to pay for the programs and staff transferred from WA-SL. This grant is to partially pay for these additional efforts. PIH itself will also solicit additional donations for its increased workload in Sierra Leone. Management duties delegation Part VI line 3 The Organization delegated its Human Relations Functions to TriNet, a publically held for-profit company. TriNet paid Wellbodys employees, managed the health insurance and all Human Relations services that Wellbody did not have the resources to provide. The budget was reviewed and approved by the Board of Directors. Their salary are a small fraction of what their peers earn in the competitive market place. Other officer or key employee compensation Part VI line 15b The Organization paid compensation of $41,670 to the President and Chair of the board of the Organization, who served as Chief Strategic Officer, and in his staff position, he researched methods to better integrate resources to address the Ebola crisis, developed plans to meet this objective, helped implement this more efficient, productive and safer system, and conducted research on the epidermiological dynamics of the diseases spread. He in his hands-on approach to treat the Ebola crisis, he spent most of his paid time up-country in Sierra Leone studying and treating the disease first-hand. The Board of Directors, with the President recusing himself, approved his compensation and developed plans to meet his objectives.
