The fiscal year 2015 season featured 13 ballets including three world premieres and two company premieres. The season began with the world premiere of Mikko Nissinen's "Swan Lake" featuring new sets and costumes by award-winning designer Robert Perdziola. The season continued with the production of Nissinen's "The Nutcracker" and Val Caniparoli's romantic drama "Lady of the Camellias." The spring season featured contemporary and neo-classical choreography from masters such as William Forsythe, Jerome Robbins, Helen Pickett, Wayne McGregor, and Company premieres of George Balanchine's "Episodes" and Hans van Manen's "Black Cake." Adding to the excitement, the Company presented world premieres by resident choreographer Jorma Elo and principal dancer Jeffrey Cirio. Boston Ballet II is the second company of Boston Ballet and represents a two-year program bridging the gap between a dancer's formal training and their professional career. BBII's focus is on developing strong, technical artists who have the skills to thrive in a world-renowned company. BBII performs extensively with the main company at the Boston Opera House in addition to their touring engagements throughout the greater Boston community. 6097346 0 6898362 Boston Ballet School (BBS): provides a comprehensive dance education with the goal of inspiring, nurturing and sustaining a life-long love of dance in every student. BBS operates three state-of-the-art dance facilities: at Boston Ballet's headquarters in the South End of Boston; in the Metro West town of Newton; and in the Salem/Marblehead area of the North Shore. During fiscal year 2015, BBS provided dance education and training to 4,966 students through four programs. The Classical Ballet Program (654 students) follows a carefully designed curriculum with nine levels of study. It also has a supplemental Summer Dance Workshop and Master Class Series (261 students) exposing students to different dance concepts and styles in a creative environment. The Children's Program (944 students) for ages 16 months to 7 years introduces children to the art of dance by promoting the exploration of creativity and expression through movement. Its corresponding summer camps, Ballet Stories and Ballet Journeys (149 students), introduce students to the wider world of dance. The Adult Dance Program (2,311 students) offers a wide range of dance classes to students of all abilities and experience levels. ECI programs include: Citydance, established in 1991, provides third-grade students from over 110 Boston and North Shore public schools with a tuition-free introduction to dance education; ECI On Location, inclusive of Taking Steps and Boys in Motion, serve students from 4th grade to 8th grade, offering multiple styles of dance that reflect our diverse community; and Adaptive Dance, established in 2002, provides creative movement instruction to individuals with disabilities from ages 2 to adult. ECI also engages participants beyond programming by providing special opportunities that can include attending Boston Ballet performances and special events/activities, mentoring and teaching, and performing in showcases or community performances. In April 2015, and for the sixth year in a row, ECI hosted 1,165 fourth and fifth graders from Boston Public Schools to performances at the Strand Theatre featuring dancers from Boston Ballet, Boston Virginia Williams Fund ("The Fund"). The Fund assets of $2,050,000 are held in trust and managed by The Boston Foundation. The Fund was established in the early 1980's for the exclusive benefit of the Ballet in perpetuity on the condition the Ballet continues to operate as a 501(c)(3) Ballet Company. Schedule D, Part V, Line 4 The Ballet's Endowment consists of approximately fourteen individual funds established to support artistic productions, scholarships to Boston Ballet School, and education & community programmatic activities. Schedule D, Part X, Line 2 The Ballet accounts for the effect of any uncertain tax positions based on a "more likely than not" threshold to the recognition of the tax positions being sustained based on the technical merits of the position under scrutiny by the applicable taxing authority. If a tax position or positions are deemed to result in uncertainties of those positions, the unrecognized tax benefit is estimated based on a "cumulative probability assessment" that aggregates the estimated tax liability for all uncertain tax positions. The Ballet has identified its tax status as a tax-exempt entity as a tax position; however, the Ballet has determined that such tax position does not result in an uncertainty requiring recognition. The Ballet is not currently under examination by any taxing jurisdiction. Its federal and state income tax returns are generally open for examination by any taxing jurisdiction for three years after the date of filing the related return.
