Private events may be held at a number of different locations within the Park and public events in the Park are coordinated throughout the year. During the year ended June 30, 2015, design projects included Picnic House Air Conditioning, Flatbush Ave Perimeter, the Garage Complex and Long Meadow Ballfields. Staff time was also spent on supervision of the Long Meadow Ballfields construction, the Wellhouse, and the privately funded Endale Arch project. As part of the Mayor's Community Parks Initiative, Design and Construction staff contributed their design expertise to revitalize Stroud Playground in neighboring Crown Heights. 1740141 0 55812 Field Operations: Prospect Park Alliance partners with the City of New York Department of Parks and Recreation in caring for the natural environment within the Park. The Arboriculture crew helps to care for the roughly 40,000 trees of Prospect Park which include 150 species and make up Brooklyn's only forest. Prospect Park provides priceless natural habitat for wildlife and park visitors as well as a much needed migration stop for thousands of birds and the Park has been designated an Important Bird Area by the National Audubon Society. The Park's 250 acres of natural areas are maintained and monitored year-round by the Alliance's Natural Resources Crew, which works with volunteers and the Woodlands Youth Crew to restore sections in the Park designated as natural areas. The Natural Resources Crew also engages youth through its work with the Woodlands Youth Crew. The Alliance provides maintenance staff at the Parade Ground, which was renovated and restored with public funds, as well as supplementing other areas of operations in the Park. 999019 0 12729 Prospect Park Alliance offers educational programs teaching visitors about the natural world and its stewardship, helping to support the Alliance's mission to maintain the Park as a resource for New York City, especially those New Yorkers from underserved and low to mid-income neighborhoods. The Park's Audubon Center and Lefferts Historic House Museum provide important educational and cultural programming for both schools and the public. During fiscal year 2015, 31,133 people visited the Prospect Park Audubon Center and an additional 17,111 people visited Pop-up Audubon, an innovative program offering a mobile presentation in various locations throughout the Park. The Lefferts Historic House Museum had public visitation totaling 42,428. Prospect Park also has a very active Volunteer Corps that is made up of community members who donate their time and energy and are critical to the ongoing maintenance and restoration of the Park. Form 990, Part XII, Line 2c During the Fiscal Year ended June 30, 2015 an the Alliance board established an Audit Committee to recommend the engagement of an auditor, approve the Alliance's audited financial statements, approve the Alliance's tax filings, and to implement the Alliance's Conflict of Interest Policy. A Form 8868, Application for Extension of time to submit a Exempt Organization Return, was submitted by the Alliance and approved by the IRS for a filing extension to February 15, 2016. The extra time was needed for thorough review of the filing by the Audit Committee and Board.
