Locally, 44 new, repaired or renovated homes were completed. In addition, 44 homes were built in Cambodia, Tajikistan, Kenya, Nicaragua and Bangladesh through Habitat's tithing program, which mobilizes 10% of unrestricted gifts to support safe, healthy, decent affordable housing internationally. 2,205 Volunteer slots were filled and managed by staff. High impact volunteers contributed 40,646 hours building new homes, renovating existing ones, making critical repairs for low-income families across King County. In addition to building and repairing homes, these volunteers provided support in administrative functions, retail Habitat Store activities and various leadership task force teams. Over this past year Habitat engaged 56 businesses, 9 faith groups, 17 civic groups and 6 schools to formal partner to support Habitat SKC and the mission of affordable housing. 1164405 25754 Operating two Habitat Stores, in Bellevue and Seattle, provided an outlet for manufacturers, contractors and individuals to donate surplus building materials and home furnishings for resale, thus diverting 769 tons of materials from landfills in FY2015. These products were made available to the public and other associated affordable housing providers. 3784316 Across King County, 3,566 families were informed about affordable housing options and/or referred to partner organizations (an 87% increase over FY14). Habitat SKC homebuyers were prepared for successful long-term homeownership through a comprehensive education program that included 46 separate classes including budgeting, financial management, conflict resolution, home maintenance, disaster preparedness, green living, construction skills and others. Each Habitat homebuyer also invests up to 500 hours of sweat equity making them true partners in our work, instilling pride of ownership and confidence to meet the ongoing responsibilities of homeownership. Habitat Seattle King County is profoundly proud that it's foreclosure rate remains exceptionally low at less than 2%.In recognition of Habitat SKC's overall operating excellence, Habitat for Humanity International designated Habitat SKC as an Affiliate of Distinction, one of only 7 affiliates amongst 1400 nationally to receive this honor for two consecutive 2-year periods. Additionally, Habitat SKC was once again awarded the highest Charity Navigator rating, 4 Stars.In April of 2015 a "homeowner survey" was mailed to 289 Habitat SKC homeowners and asked about the impact Habitat homeownership had on nine specific social and financial indicators. The survey demonstrated that families in Habitat SKC homes are safer, healthier, more financially secure, more involved in their community and have increased ability to save money. Their children are also healthier and have improved their educational trajectories. Their quality of life and security about the future is strikingly improved. Fiscal year 2015 saw Neighborhood Revitalization become adopted as an important approach that HFHSKC will incorporate moving forward. A "neighborhood of focus" was selected in Southeast Seattle and will serve as a geographic focus where Habitat can bring its full impact to bear in a collaborative context. Community engagement, a key strategy of the Habitat model, secures neighborhood commitment and nurtures the civic engagement essential to a healthy community. Habitat incorporates volunteers on a scale unique in the affordable housing sector.
