Donations help us meet ALL needs, and provide financial assistance for memberships, camp, mentoring, leadership, education, and childcare. false false 22312186 0 24957481 GOVERNMENT FUNDED PROGRAMS - SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY -- Old Colony YMCA offers numerous government-contracted services that support children and families, including services to help youth and their families break destructive patterns and learn to live responsibly. Funded through the Office of Community Corrections, and the Massachusetts Departments of Early Education and Care, Youth Services, Children and Families, Mental Health, Public Health, and Housing and Community Development, we offer childcare, shelter, assessment, and individualized treatment with a multidisciplinary approach that involves the entire family. In addition to clinicians who may work with a particular program, we provide additional services to residential clients through our fully licensed Mental Health Clinic located in Brockton. YMCA residential programs work to strengthen families and ensure youth have a long-term system of support and resources in order to maintain a positive life-style and grow into healthy, productive adults. Our nonprofit status allows the YMCA to be eligible to carry out these state-funded contracted services, which are complemented by day camp, childcare, sports, swimming, health and wellness, nutrition/fitness, and other traditional YMCA services that are generally not offered by other social service providers. CHILD CARE - served 2,842 children daily at 48 sites located throughout SE Massachusetts during FY-15. BOLTON PLACE FAMILY CENTER - served 79 people during FY-15 This brand new facility is located adjacent to the Central Branch in Brockton, which ensures that families have easy access to Y programs and services to support them as they work towards self-sufficiency. Services provided include memberships, assistance with childcare, camperships, mental health and substance abuse counseling, mentoring services, and other activities and resources designed to strengthen and support families experiencing homelessness. FAMILY LIFE CENTER - served 115 people during FY-15, providing supportive housing for families and their children who are experiencing homelessness. Each family has individualized goals and works towards meeting them through intensive case management and referrals to appropriate supportive services. At any given time, fifteen (15) families and their children who were previously experiencing homelessness reside at the Center. THE DAVID JON LOUISON CENTER - served 134 people during FY-15 The Center, spread among three properties, provides a "home-like" atmosphere for families experiencing homelessness, which include children ranging in age from newborns to eighteen years. In order to enhance the families' self-sufficiency, case management, and support services are provided, including housing advocacy, and guidance in the areas of family budgeting and nutrition. COMMUNITY-BASED RAPID REHOUSING - served 165 "graduated" families during FY-15. This program supports families transitioning from the Family Life Center, the David Jon Louison Center, and the Bolton Place Family Center into safe, affordable, permanent housing. Y staff continues to provide intensive case management and wrap around supports, including workforce development, educational attainment, mental health services, and traditional YMCA supports. RESIDENTIAL PROGRAMS SERVING DCF AND DYS INVOLVED YOUTH - 54,385 Billable Bed Units during FY-15. Old Colony Y operates residential programs that served more than 1,210 adolescent males and females over the past fiscal year. Most teens are placed in these programs through the state Department of Youth Services (DYS) and Department of Children and Families (DCF). Each person in these programs receives classroom instruction, GED preparation, psychosocial assessments, shelter, and mentoring. A mental health clinician is also on staff to provide individual counseling, drug abuse prevention, and family intervention group sessions. Residents spend leisure time developing healthy physical habits and cooperative skills through developmentally appropriate YMCA activities. These programs include Brockton Detention Program, Boys Revocation Program, Girls Secure Detention Unit, Transition House/STARR Brockton, Alternative Lockup Program (ALP), Southeast Independent Living Program, Lowell Transition Program, Merrimack Revocation, and the LEAD Program in Fall River. OLD COLONY YMCA STARR PROGRAM - NEW BEDFORD: OCY STARR is a 14-bed placement service that provides a single door for children who need short-term services for a range of needs, including stabilization only, assessment, and/or respite. Services are focused on supporting a rapid reintegration into the community or transition to a next placement. Children placed in a STARR program are expected to attend public school in the community while they are in the STARR Program. Male and female adolescents, ranging from the ages of twelve through eighteen years of age, are served by this program. The program utilizes a multidisciplinary treatment team that seeks to involve the referring system, family, and client into our structured programs (Hot Line, Shelter, Diagnostic, and Behavioral Treatment Residence). GIRLS INTENSIVE TRANSITION TO INDEPENDENT LIVING (ITIL) AND BOYS INTENSIVE TRANSITION TO INDEPENDENT LIVING (ITIL) - FALL RIVER: Established in 1998, the ITIL programs are structured, behaviorally oriented, clinically sound programs that serve adolescents ages 16-21. The goal of ITIL is to assist clients to develop an adult identity and the associated independent living skills. Clients have typically become reliant on a system (DCF, DYS, or DMH) for their direction, guidance, and external control. The ITIL strives to teach clients how to become self-sufficient and create their own internal mechanism for functioning as positive, socially confident young people. GROUP HOME - FALL RIVER: a co-ed residential program for adolescents ages 12 through 18. These adolescents have experienced multiple placements and treatment modalities, the trauma of abuse and neglect, the escape of drugs and alcohol and the failure of social systems to meet their needs. The program offers assessment and treatment in a highly structured, nurturing staff secure environment. Within this therapeutic environment, clients are provided with a team of highly skilled and trained professionals who coordinate their efforts to meet the needs of the clients. STRIVE PROGRAM (LOWELL) - NORTHEAST TRANSITION PROGRAM: Funded by the Department of Youth Services and located in Lowell, Massachusetts, this 12 bed residential program opened in 2008. STRIVE seeks to successfully transition young males, 16 to 21 years of age, back into the community. STRIVE staff support and mentor youth as they work to become self-sufficient. MERRIMACK REVOCATION PROGRAM (LOWELL) This program is a 12 bed, staff secure, revocation unit serving committed males. Residents attend daily DBT groups, learn new skills, work on educational and clinical goals, and develop relapse prevention plans. BREWSTER TREATMENT PROGRAM: Brewster Treatment is an 18 bed, staff secured, residential treatment program with an average length of stay between six and eight months. All clients have been committed to the Department of Youth Services and are referred from the Southeast, Northeast and Metro areas of the state. The majority of the clients are transitioning home upon graduation. 10514199 0 13155557 CHILD CARE and YOUTH DEVELOPMENT -- AFTERSCHOOL CARE AT BROCKTON HOUSING AUTHORITY DEVELOPMENTS: During the school year, 88% of the children and teens residing in the four Housing Authority family developments we serve participate in safe, healthy program activities at least three times per week. During the summer, more than 225 children people participated daily, while special events and field trips drew an average of 700+ participants. Youth Focus was created in 2005 to provide child care and support to youth and families onsite within four Brockton Housing Authority (BHA) neighborhood developments: Crescent Court, (121 apartments; 210 children plus children of Section 8 certificate holders living nearby); Golden Circle, (26 children; plus 200 children of Section 8 certificate holders living nearby); Hillside Village (100 apartments; 130 children plus children of Section 8 certificate holders living nearby); and Roosevelt Heights, 100 apartments; 184 children plus children of Section 8 certificate holders living nearby). DROP-IN TEEN PROGRAM IN BROCKTON: 15,567 young people participated in Old Colony Y's "Summer in the City" program. To combat violence and gang activity in the summer months, we offer engaging daily events including organized sports, arts, and recreational activities, to keep teens busy during the hot summer evenings. TRADITIONAL CHILDCARE: Old Colony Y is the largest provider of early education/childcare in Southeastern Massachusetts, serving 2,842 children daily in infant, toddler, pre-school and after-school programs at 48 sites. We use a developmentally appropriate approach, with attention to a child's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth. In YMCA care, kids learn and live the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Teachers promote an atmosphere of fun and friendship while they help young people explore their world. After-school programs offer enrichment activities and tutoring to enhance a child's school curriculum, plus YMCA programs including swimming, sports, and exercise. For parents who cannot afford the full fee, childcare services are provided below cost. CHILDCARE AT CAMP LOCATIONS: Old Colony YMCA served 30,207 children through our summer offerings this fiscal year! Of the 6,827 children who attended camp and summer fun programs, approximately 67% received financial assistance. Our camps offer summer childcare through our indoor Summer Fun Clubs and five outdoor camping programs that promote the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in environments that encourage good stewardship of our natural resources. We operate two Camp Massasoit sites in Brockton and Canton, Camp Satucket in East Bridgewater, Camp Yomechas in Middleboro, YMCA Camp in Stoughton, and Camp Clark in Plymouth. Camp provides a summer child care solution for busy parents while offering children a chance to learn a new skill, pursue a personal interest and develop friendships and memories. Camp is also a maturing activity that helps children build a bridge from family life to responsible independent living. YMCA camp leaders have a heart for young people; they work hard to create a sense of community; and they serve as models of integrity. Over 74% of these individuals are under the age of 17. We have more than 52,395 members association-wide. On an annual basis, our members visited our facilities more than 949,210 times! Old Colony Y believes all people should have access to programs that build strong spirits, minds, and bodies, so program fees are kept affordable and scholarships are provided to those who qualify. We provide a formal reduced fee structure based on household income - Membership for All - that helps ensure accessibility for everyone. Our Y is fully committed to combatting area health issues like cancer, obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. We lead and work within community coalitions inside and outside the walls of our YMCAs to offer medically based solutions, reduce health disparities amongst diverse populations, and view community health through a lens that is inclusive of all community members regardless of race, age, economic status, or transportation. Through strong community partnerships with community leaders, schools, medical professionals and more, Old Colony Y is working to reduce chronic disease, promote healthier lifestyles, increase cultural competency, create clinic to community linkages, and help people engage in developing a holistic vision for their spirit, mind, and body. Old Colony YMCA is comprised of eleven branches. In addition to specialty branches, (Community-Based Child Care, Family Services, and Social Services), we provide a myriad of healthy living services - a lifelong progression of medically-based health and fitness activities, experiences and education - through eight other locations: Brockton Central, Brockton Youth, Easton, East Bridgewater, Middleboro, Plymouth, Stoughton, and Taunton. Our branches and programs serve children, teens, families, and seniors of all backgrounds, faiths, incomes, and abilities.
