This endowment of approximately $100,000 allows EVWL to extend support to deserving students today and for many years to come. 14049 SEEDS FOR AUTISMSeeds offers a supportive environment for students with professional artisans teaching a variety of skills in woodworking, ceramics, welding, jewelry making and other valuable trades. The ultimate goal is to help these talented students transition from learning to earning. 13392 PACKING FOR SUCCESSWe provide 800 backpacks filled with essential supplies to 16 Kyrene, Tempe, and Chandler Middle and High Schools each year. Backpacks contain notebooks, folders, pens, pencils, markers, and of course flash drives. The backpacks are packed every spring for distribution to students at the beginning of and throughout the entire school year. School administrators, staff and social workers help identify students in need and make sure they receive a new backpack filled with supplies. 9000 9000 CHILDRENS CANCER NETWORK - Its All About You is a non-medical program focusing on health and wellness for children, teens, siblings and parents affected by childhood cancer. Recognizing that wellness and feeling good involve positively affecting the mind, body, and spirit, this initiative focuses on ways to increase knowledge, build self esteem, learn positive coping skills, develop relationships with others who have similar experiences and have fun in a relaxed and encouraging environment.Through Its All About You our most important mission is to provide wigs for these young girls to build self esteem and allow them to go through cancer treatment feeling beautiful. We also provide holiday baskets and host a Mothers Day Tea for families caring for a sick child. 4833 HOMEBOUND WOMAN - PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR WOMAN WHO ARE HOMEBOUNDEvery year our members bring good cheer, fresh flowers and holiday baskets to dozens of elderly women in our community. Many of these ladies have no family or support nearby. 4369 KIDS IN TRANSITION PROGRAMEast Valley Womens Leagues KIT (Kids in Transition) provides teens, who are in the care of DCS, the dignity of good hygiene and the comfort of their own pillow. Our members collect from businesses and buy pillows and full-size toiletry items and package them in a draw-string sport bag that the kids can take with them. 4295 MIND AND BODY ESCALANTE CENTER is a project in conjunction with Tempe Community Action Agency to help engage the neighboring community and Thew school in educational and nutrition opportunities accessible at the garden. In 2014-2015 EVWL club year, we provided funds to support a community Garden Party that included cooking demonstrations, arts & crafts and gardening tips. Funds also went to Thew School for gardening workshops and for cooking classes for expectant mothers enrolled in prenatal classes with TCAA. 4000 4000 MCC SCHOLARSHIP - Countless women have been the recipients of nearly $70,000 in scholarships from EVWL over the years. The MCC scholarship is awarded to single mothers of any age. This includes mothers with young children or grown children wanting to back to school. The recipient is required to maintain a 2.8 GPA and show financial need. 3400 TAPP/The EVWL STIP (Supporting Teens in Parenting) project helps students in our community who are navigating the challenges of teenage parenthood while working toward successfully graduating from high school.The local program that STIP actively supports is Tempe Union High School Districts TAPP (TeenAge Pregnant and Parenting) program. Located in the Compadre Academy, TAPP offers professional childcare on site while parents attend classes there and at their home high schools.TAPP is the only comprehensive program of its kind in the county. Throughout the year, EVWLs STIP provides day-to-day necessities such as bus passes, diapers, bottles, and other supplies needed to aid the success of the students in this program. STIP volunteers also assist through mentoring, celebrating student successes, and provides books for the home/school reading program that supports the young parents in reading to their infants and toddlers. 2504 STEVE JOHNSON PROM SCHOLARSHIPEast Valley Womens League created this award in 2013 to honor the memory of Stephen Arthur Johnson. Steve grew up in Tempe, graduated from McClintock High School in 1980 and was an active supporter of the Tempe Union High School District Foundation. For 6 years Steve was always available to help the members of East Valley Womens League move hundreds of dresses to and from storage for The Cinderella Affair, so many deserving young ladies could find the dress of their dreams. Since 2013, a young man has been chosen from McClintock High to receive the Stephen Johnson Prom Sponsorship Award which includes prom tickets, a tuxedo, flowers, dinner and much more. In 2015, EVWL expanded the award to all 6 Tempe high schools. The administration of each school will identify an outstanding young man for the award and East Valley Womens League will help make his prom magical and affordable! 2287 CHEMO COMPANIONS - GIFTS FOR WOMEN UNDERGOING CHEMO TREATMENT - Guided by love, compassion, understanding and hope, Chemo Companions seeks to make a positive impact on the lives of those undergoing cancer treatments by offering friendship and emotional support. We provide companionship through a network of trained volunteers who bring comfort, conversation, laughter and nourishing essentials to the chemo lounge. Over two thousand people undergoing chemotherapy have been touched by this program.Our volunteers deliver goodie bags filled with lotion, blankets, snack bars and activities to help people pass the time during treatment. Each week our Chemo Companions also lovingly known as the Cookie Fairies bake and deliver dozens of cookies to the people receiving treatment. 2074 2074 Over the Moon Scholarship- The EVWL Scholarship Selection Committee, in conjunction with the family of Stephanie Graham, provides a female student who exhibits service to the community, participation in extra-curricular activities, demonstrates financial need and has a minimum grade point average of 2.5 a scholarship. 2000 2000 Emily Rosamond Scholarship - The scholarship honors the memory of Emily Rosamond Bauer, an ASU 2001 graduate and the daughter of an EVWL member. Emily was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority, volunteer YMCA Youth Soccer coach and helper at the Homeless Food Kitchen. The scholarship is awarded each year to an Arizona resident attending ASU full time. Candidates must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.75 and exhibit a financial need. 2000 2000 Anything is Possible Scholarship - The Board of Directors of the TUHSEF and EVWL both agree that post-secondary education is key to success for all students.
