We manage 15 of the world's 40 most endangered species, and have 1,039 animals from 33 taxa. During 2015 we hatched 186 endangered turtles and tortoises. The center creates a long-term plan for each species that we breed and defines the desired outcome in terms of potential need for repatriation or reintroduction or other conservation needs. 169226 119204 Geometric Tortoise Program: the Turtle Conservancy raised funds to purchase 210 acres near Cape Town, South Africa of critical habitat to create a biodiversity preserve for what is likely to be the last large population for the South African Geometric Tortoise (one of the world's most endangered animals). The Southern Africa Tortoise Conservation Trust was established to purchase the land and manage the reserve.
