As of September 2015, I Spayed LA successfully completed over 17,000 sterilizations. Our flagship program is changing the landscape for cats and their caregivers in one of the nation's most economically challenged communities-South Los Angeles-by providing education, awareness and free resources to impact the lives of thousands of homeless and owned cats. 228423 4B - CARE FOR COMMUNITY CATS: The first program of Stray Cat Alliance provides the public with low-cost resources for spay/neuter and medical care for community cats through our public Hotline. This year, 2,347 individuals were given the support to help 9,737 cats and kittens. There are 5 Trap Depots located throughout Los Angeles County that lend humane traps to the public and train them to preform Trap/Neuter/Return to sterilize community cats and prevent new births. Annually, over 2500 traps are lent resulting in the spay/neuter of thousands of cats. The ultimate goal is to lower cat intake at local animal shelters and to maintain healthy colonies. Advocacy is also a major component of CFCC to protect cats in danger of losing their living environment due to loss of habitat, building demolition or from animal abusers. They are taken from the streets, pulled from shelters and some are rescued from deaths in families, abuse and sometime hoarding cases. This year, 369 cats were brought into our foster system and 262 were adopted out to loving, forever homes. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: 4D - Return-To-Field at Long Beach Animal Care Services: Return-To-Field saves the lives of thousands of community and loosely owned cats who enter the shelter and who likely will be killed. Working with the Long BeachAnimal Care Services, SCA spays/neuters healthy community cats and returns them to their neighborhoods. Ongoing education and outreach teaches the public about the importance of spay and neuter of community and owned cats. 781 cats and kittens were released back to their homes. The numbers of releases increase annually and the intake rate at the shelter is decreasing. SCA is proud to be one of the first REturn-to Field programs in California.
