Color Of Change runs strategic campaigns that aim to shift the incentive structures for companies and elected officials who currently benefit from systems and practices that support mass incarceration. We leverage the voices of our members to advance policies and solutions that meet the needs of our communities and act as a racial justice authority to the political left, as its members have yet to significantly represent or fight for the issues and concerns that affect Black people the most. Additionally, we develop campaign ideas that disrupt the debt-to-work economy that requires working class and middle class Black people to borrow beyond their means just to compete in the job market. This includes a messaging campaign on the disproportionately larger average student loan debts that Black households carry, in addition to how that debt can reduce wealth acquired over a lifetime and ultimately increase the racial wealth gap for Black Americans. These efforts all point to the fact that while these economic injustices jeopardize the financial well-being of all workers in our country, they consistently have the most damaging effects in Black communities. Color Of Change holds government and corporations accountable by continuing to drive home the necessity of a free and open Internet as critical to winning the larger fight for dignity, civil rights and criminal justice. We are elevating the message that net neutrality provides a level playing field for all voices, challenging predominate and dangerous media narratives, allowing for innovation and entrepreneurship that was not possible before and helping Black activists and organizers to find and reach their audience online and organize for a better future. 466513 Culture & Media: Our campaign work in this area seeks to change the narrative and representations of Black people, as told by Hollywood and other media/entertainment centers.
