It also accepts other animals from outside of Arlington County when it has the space to do so. In FY16, that meant 2,896 animals - 1,851 domestic animals (dogs, cats & small companion animals) and 1,045 wildlife. Some are lost pets that are reunited with their owners; some are given up by owners that can no longer keep them and some are found abandoned. Wildlife may be injured, orphaned or trapped and in many cases, are rehabilitated and returned to the wild. Of the total number of domestic animals available for adoption, 1,259 animals were adopted from our facility, 66 were transferred to other shelters or rescue groups and 260 pets were returned to their owners. The League also fostered 332 animals to prepare them for adoption. Unweaned and underage kittens, pregnant cats and dogs, underage puppies, adult animals that are recovering from medical treatment, or who need some special care, are all candidates for fostering. 447010 304477 ANIMAL CONTROL - IN FY16, THE LEAGUE PROVIDED ANIMAL CONTROL SERVICES FOR ARLINGTON COUNTY BY RESPONDING TO ANIMAL COMPLAINTS, ENFORCING ANIMAL CODES, INVESTIGATING CRUELTIES AND ASSISTING RESIDENTS IN RESOLVING ANIMAL-RELATED ISSUES. THE LEAGUE'S ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICERS ALSO PROVIDED PROTECTIVE CUSTODY FOR 40 ANIMALS AT THE LEAGUE. THEY HANDLED OVER 4,584 CALLS, IN ADDITION TO THE TENS OF THOUSANDS OF ANIMAL CONTROL RELATED PHONE CALLS THAT THE LEAGUE FIELDS EACH YEAR. 585853 399048 COMMUNITY SERVICES - IN FY16, THE LEAGUE STAFF LED 36 TOURS, 11 VISITS OUT TO THE COMMUNITY AND PRESENTED 89 HUMANE EDUCATION LESSONS TO A TOTAL OF 1,029 CHILDREN AND 281 ADULTS THROUGH COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS, SCHOOLS, AND OUR SUMMER CAMP. IN ADDITION, THE LEAGUE PROVIDED LOW COST AND FULLY SUBSIDIZED SPAY/NEUTER PROCEDURES FOR 159 ANIMALS, PROVIDED 5 ANIMALS AND THEIR OWNERS WITH EMERGENCY "SAFEKEEPING" SERVICES THROUGH OUR COMPANION IN CRISIS PROGRAM, ASSISTED 21 CLIENTS WITH VETERINARY CARE FOR THEIR PETS FOR A TOTAL OF $6,428, AND PROVIDED 691 LOW COST RABIES SHOTS, AS WELL AS 107 LOW COST MICROCHIPS. THE LEAGUE SUPPORTS TRAP-NEUTER-RETURN (TNR) EFFORTS IN ARLINGTON COUNTY. IN FY16, THE LEAGUE SPAY OR NEUTERED 29 FERAL CATS IN ARLINGTON COUNTY. THE LEAGUE HAS 11,260 LIKES ON FACEBOOK, 1,685 TWITTER FOLLOWERS, AND 9,699 INSTAGRAM FOLLOWERS.
