In that same year InSTEDD partnered with Cepheid, Inc., a leading diagnostics equipment manufacturer to pilot the platform using cloud hosting and and an Internet of things approach in South Africa in a TB study. In the ensuing 4 years InSTEDD further refined and enhanced the platform to work with multiple equipment and test platforms and in late 2013 partnered with FIND Diagnostics, a diagnostic solution provider and implementer, to form the Connected Diagnostics Intiative, ("CDX") which brings advanced telemetry, sophisticated dashboard capacity, mobile and cloud based systems and services, to the open source software platform. In 2014, in response to the Ebola crisis Google.org, agreed to fund further development of the underlying technology platform so that it would support Ebola assays as they became available. 332904 Mobile Technology Services:InSTEDD conceived, designed and developed an extensive, adaptable, scalable, and simple to use mobile platform of technologies which integrate and interoperate with most enterprise solutions in the humanitarian sector as well as work as stand alone tools. In 2015 these tools continued to be deployed with support with groups like UN World Food Programme in their mobile Vulnerability Analysis and Mapping (mVAM) project to assist in collecting food security data remotely- through short phone surveys, using SMS, live telephone interviews and an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system. This work includes the work formerly referred to as HI-PPP which is now called OpenHIE and is funded by PEPFAR. InSTEDD is a founding member of this community and is responsible for the Facility Registry Community activities. InSTEDD's iLab Southeast Asia team created, designed and developed the tool Resource Map, which is the reference technology that the Facility Registry module built upon. Along with the initial implementations, InSTEDD provided direct support to the online community strategy for OpenHIE for community engagement, branding, technical guides, and country support. Early stage work on the PlanWise application was also funded during this year. 235533 Research, Crisis Response & Other:InSTEDD provided R&E expertise to two research projects: 1) Population Council in support of their HIVCore project titled, Use of HIV Treatment Provider Reminders & Alerts for Improving Tuberculosis (TB) Intensive Case-Finding and Isoniazid Preventative Therapy for People Living with HIV in Western Kenya ("TB Tech"). The TB Tech project aimed to design, develop, implement, and test information and communication technologies to improve TB care among people living with HIV. The overall research objective was to evaluate the impact of implementing a reminder system for medical providers (i.e., nurses, clinical officers, medical officers, consultants) to improve TB case-finding and IPT for adults living with HIV in western Kenya; 2) Rwanda CDC and University of Rwanda to develop the research protocol to evaluate the clinical impacts and costs of eHealth in Rwanda using innovative frameworks and local capacity. Roddenberry awarded InSTEDD a grant to engage Infinitum Humanitarian Systems to develop, and convene a Disaster Response team and water purifying system to provision safe drinking water during major disasters and critical infrastructure failures. This system was provisioned in the 2015 Nepal earthquake. 280520 Ebola Response Program:InSTEDD continued to support on the ground organizations in the Ebola impacted countries with technology support and provisioning; Odisi, as design and development partners for the technology that was the backbone of the ACT Project - Assisted Contact Tracing. ACT allows people to self-report symptoms of Ebola using their mobile phones. In addition InSTEDD continued the development work funded by Skoll Global Threats Fund to support the Centers for Disease Control's active monitoring program for CDC employees returning from Ebola impacted countries to the US. The IVR system was customized for CDC usings InSTEDD's Verboice and mBuilder Technology platforms allowing for voice and sms two-way communications with travelers. The system was successful and was able to screen and identify infected individuals and have them properly quarantined.
