Compared to the previous year, the food pantry distributed food to 11,865 more people than in 2014. Our refrigerated truck makes a daily run to pick up food donations from about a dozen local stores, working in coordination with the United Food Banks "Enabled Agency" Program. We also receive several palettes of TEFAP Food (USDA) through the United Food Bank each week. With the help of about 25 volunteers each week we ate able to keep the wait time on distribution days down to an average of between 30 and 45 minutes. A couple of new conveyors and a palette jack were acquired during the year, which have helped to speed up the packing and distribution process and reduce the hardest part of the labor involved. An brick patio, covered with a fabric tent and accessible from inside the warehouse, allows us to store boxes safely outside while freeing up space inside the warehouse for more food storage.We produced a promotional DVD about Desert Manna Food Pantry to be given to current or potential donors, which explains our vision and operation and expresses our appreciation for their generous help. Looking ahead to 2016, Desert Manna Food Pantry hopes to add on to the walk-in cooler and build a walk-in freezer of similar size.Many of our volunteers are people from the community who, having benefited from the Food Pantry during a time of personal need, want to give back by helping us reach others also in need.
