It is to this region that we are bringing our mission, ministry and resources, working with the community leaders for steady sustainable progress. false false 220685 217677 Preschools:Building on the success and reputation of our four preschools, Arise Rwanda in cooperation with the community leaders, opened a fifth preschool this year as the new term started in January. Like all the other preschools, this school serves the poorest of the poor with a Bowl of Porridge and a nurturing preschool curriculum from Hope Haven school that includes lessons in numbers and letters and English language instruction. 75 children from this community of 2,000 attend the school in two sessions. Arise Rwanda now supports 5 schools with 5 teachers and 10 assistants. 310 children attend the daily half day sessions. A specialist in early childhood development, worked with the 4 of the pre-school teachers in Boneza on basic skill development. Success of the preschools is measured by the achievements of the students as they move to the government primary school. They prove to be outstanding students.Clean Water:In 2014, Arise Rwanda realized that we could no longer build additional clean water wells in the community. The stress on the water table and the inaccessibility ofthe land drilling sites necessitated a new approach to providing sources of clean water. Currently the 8 wells funded by Arise Rwanda Ministries serve about 5,000 people. This opened a new opportunity to mechanize some of the existing wells to seek water at a deeper level and provide a greater supply. As a result, the first mechanized well has been completed and was dedicated this year. This one wellalone will supply clean water for 2,000 people. The community danced and sang celebrating the greatest gift of clean water for their community. One of the local leaders tests the water and trains the villagers on the importance of drinking clean water and keeping the well clean and maintained. The clean water opportunities are ongoing as community leaders continue to identify Clean Water as the most pressing need in this rural community.Kivu Hills Academy:Land for the location of Kivu Hills Academy was located at the top of the hill in Boneza. From this plot on the hill, five acres of land secured now from many plot holders, students will be inspired to look beyond their current existence to the potential for the future. Kivu Hills Academy will be a secondary school providing academic, vocational, and entrepreneurial training for local students who will then be encouraged to remain in the community to make it prosper and grow. Following the Rwandan educational system and the "TVET" model, Kivu Hills Academy will also seek to become sustainable through the Teach a Man to Fish model. The team building the school includes Architect of Genesis Architecture Studio, Kigali, Project Manager Gervais Muremire, Board members Kevin Denton leading curriculum and Paul Woods leading construction. The construction of the school is bringing much needed work to the community and many of the local people are benefiting from the project and the income it brings to the community. Construction of 3 classrooms and an administrative building was well under way by the end of 2015. Members of the Rwandan Parliament visited the school site and have pledged their support for Kivu Hills Academy. The Ministry of Education has officially communicated that the academic year for school will start on February 2, 2016.Community Development:Recently at the Kivu Hills Academy Cornerstone dedication, five motorcycles were dedicated to the transportation system for the local pastors and village leaders. They will share the use and upkeep of these vehicles and travel the dusty, bumpy roads of Boneza far quicker than before using their bicycles or by walking. This will add to the valuable service that these community leaders can provide for the villagers.In addition, more cows were brought into the villages for the deserving poor.These families will have an important resource for their survival and self respect.And finally, SACCO and our Microenterprise specialist are bringing savings groups and entrepreneurial education to aspiring business people of Boneza.
