The Emily Krzyzewski Center serves as a college access hub in Durham, NC, propelling academically-focused, low-income K-12 students and graduates towards success in college through its K to College programs while also offering college information and advising support to any local high school student through the Game Plan: College program. Through broader facility partnerships, thousands of additional students and community members use the Center as a place to convene, learn, and grow. 0 0 1100446 1959 K to College programs - The Center's K to College programs (Pioneer Scholars, Scholars to College, and Scholars on Campus) propel academically-focused, low-income K-12 students and graduates towards success in college. The Pioneer Scholars program ensures that our elementary and middle school students are building academic skills, achieving in school, and laying the foundation for future college success. This year, each of our 84 students participated in up to 865 hours of structured tutoring, enrichment, and leadership programming at the Center. The Scholars to College program ensures that high school students challenge themselves academically and personally, becoming graduating seniors who are scholarship-eligible and college-ready. This year, 117 students participated in an average of 5.75 hours of weekly curriculum-based instruction, individualized advising, tutoring, ACT preparation, and other enrichment activities at the Center. The Scholars on Campus program ensures that students successfully transition to higher education by supporting their academic and campus engagement, career planning, and financial responsibility. This year, 17 students participated in workshops, individualized advising, one-on-one campus visits, and a weekend retreat. Student progress is evaluated across all three programs using qualitative and quantitative assessment. The following results from the 2015-16 academic year highlight just some of our student successes. 100% of Pioneer Scholars students increased their ACT Aspire score in at least one subject; 87% of our students are on-track in English and 80% are on-track in Math compared to 74% and 51% respectively of their peers nationally. The 25 students in Scholars to College class of 2016 earned a total of $2.6M in scholarships and grants. Ten students have full-tuition scholarships. 100% of our Scholars on Campus students are on-track to graduate in 5 years or less, compared to 63% of all college students and 47% of their low-income peers. 33359 Game Plan: College - The Center's newest program is designed to inspire hundreds of new students to make thoughtful decisions about higher education. By equipping students with information about college and empowering them with a 'game plan' for what to do next, the program will help students take intentional steps toward college. With the addition of this program, the Center will serve as a college access hub for all of Durham. Staff and Teen Advisors will deliver college information workshops at the Center and in the broader community. Individualized advising will also be offered to any student who seeks more personalized support. During the 2015-16 academic year, after thoughtful deliberation and the formal adoption of a new strategic plan, the Center sought and received seed funding for Game Plan: College. The program was developed and piloted in early 2016 and Game Plan: College will fully launch in the fall of 2016. 325897 61626 Facility Partnerships - In addition to college access programming, the Center enhances the impact of local organizations through Facility Partnerships by serving as a home and resource for nonprofits, schools, and community groups as they convene, learn, and grow. This year, 65 Facility Partners ran programs, hosted events, and held meetings at the Center, serving more than 1,200 students and community members in an average week.
