The cornerstones of the success of Creative Classrooms is integration of creativity and arts education with school-wide curricula and an emphasis on staff development, collaborative learning, and ongoing teacher evaluation. In 2015, we began to build on the Creative Classrooms model to develop a programmatic approach to bring our innovative creativity-education approach to public, charter, and other school systems. Key elements of the model are: A network of teaching artists trained as SEL-focused creativity educators; Ongoing professional development and evaluation for creativity educators; Curricular tools for creativity educators; Professional development opportunities and curricular tools for classroom teachers; Workshops for school administrators; Parent education. In conjunction with this work, the Guild sharpened its focus on authenticity development as a goal of social-emotional learning. To that end, we held our first The Art of Authenticity Exhibition of children's art, with over 100 artists in grades K-8 participating. We also began work on a Children & Authenticity Conference to be held in 2016. 89641 50742 Boys' Arts Express: In 2015, we completed our first full year of operation of Boys' Arts Express as a comprehensive five-days-a-week after-school program at our hub at the Earth School in Lower Manhattan, New York. One hundred and seven boys, who attend pre-K to 7th grade in six schools in the East Village participated in the program. (The group included three Earth School alums who now participated as Apprentice Facilitators.) During the two 20-week program cycle, boys participated in a total of nearly 19,500 program hours. 50332 40000 Creative Classrooms: In 2015, we also completed our first full year of operating Creative Classrooms, the arts and creativity program the Guild took over from the Partnership for Inner-City Education in the fall of 2014. The addition of Creative Classrooms to the Guild's program offering has allowed us to bring our innovative creativity-education approach to thousands of New York City children during the school day. The program, with an added focus on positive gender socialization and social-emotional development, has proved to be even more popular. We have expanded Creative Classrooms to 21 Catholic schools in some of the most economically disadvantaged areas of Upper Manhattan and the Bronx. Over 7,000 children in grades K-8 participated in Creative Classrooms in 2015. 25057 11841 Girls' Arts Express: In response to demand from parents, the Guild launched Girls' Arts Express in the fall of 2015 as a parallel after-school program for girls in pre-K through 5th grade. In the first semester, 21 girls participated in over 2,750 program hours. 1675 0 Workshops: In 2015, we conducted creativity-education workshops with educators in seven schools and with parents in two additional schools. 143 0 Children's Arts Express: In 2015, we conducted Children's Arts Express at the Immaculate Conception School in the East Village, in New York City. Through stories, expressive movement, visual arts and games, this program teaches children to look at how they view themselves, their gender, and the choices they make. We look at and address the ever-encroaching constriction of gender roles that begins to affect the youngest children. We speak and give creative expression to our feelings, our thoughts, and our preferences.
