They offer a glimpse into the lives of soldiers from the Revolutionary War, the American Civil War, World War I, World War II, Korean War and Vietnam, all the way through Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom and the Afghanistan War. The Museum has the nation's second largest collection of Holocaust memorabilia and the world's second largest collection of artifacts from 9/11from both the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon. The collections are maintained to preserve the memory of all individuals that served in the United States Military and wars on terrorism. Each item displayed carries with it a personal story that will help us remember the price paid for freedom. In conformity with accounting policies generally followed by museums, the value of the Museum's collections has been excluded from the statement of financial position, and gifts of artifacts and art objects are excluded from revenue in the statement of activities. Purchases of artifacts and art objects by the Museum are recorded as decreases in net assets in the statement of activities. The collection is held for public exhibition, is protected, kept unencumbered, cared for and preserved and is subject to policies governing its use. Part X, Line 2: The Museum's evaluation on December 31, 2016 and 2015, revealed no uncertain tax positions that would have a material impact on the financial statements. The Museum does not believe that any reasonably possible changes in tax positions will occur within the next twelve months that will have a material impact on the financial statements.
