Through Marine Education: SOS presented in 74 classrooms and engaged with 2050 students.Through Beach and River Cleanups: Over 9000 volunteers participated in at least one shoreline/inland cleanup. Collectively they removed 32,726 pounds of trash and recycling from our beaches, rivers, and waterways. Management has considered its tax positions and believes that all of the positions taken by the Organization in its federal and state exempt organization tax returns are more likely than not to be sustained upon examination. The Organizations returns are subject to examination by federal and state taxing authorities, generally for three and four years respectively, after they are filed. Form 990, Part VI, Line 11b: Form 990 Review Process The Finance Committee lead by the Board Treasurer is responsible for reviewing the organization's 990. When the 990 has been completed, it is provided to the Executive Salary who ensure the Board Treasurer receives the document. The Treasurer the, either distributes it to the Finance Committee members and asks for written feedback or calls a meeting of the Finance Committee to review and discuss the information provided in the 990. If there are questions about any of the information in the 990, the Executive Director and Finance Manager reviews the backup data with the Treasurer or the full Finance Committee as appropriate. If changes are made to the original 990, which will have been reviewed by an outside CPA, the revised document is sent back to the CPA for a final review. Form 990, Part VI, Line 12c: Explanation of Monitoring and Enforcement of Conflicts Save Our Shores has a conflict of interest policy. Implementation of the policy is by Board review. If a potential conflict of interest is raised, the Executive Committee reviews the facts and circumstances of the situation and determines if a Director should recuse him/herself from specific governance issues and/or decision making processes. Conflicts of interest at the staff level are reviewed by the Executive Director, who may seek guidance from the Executive Committee and is responsible for making a final determination of appropriate action. Form 990, Part VI, Line 15b: Compensation Review and Approval Process for Officers and Key Employees The Board of Directors sets the ED Salary based on relevant regional comps. A base salary is established when the ED joins the organization. Performance reviews of the ED are conducted by the Executive Committee of the Board with input from staff who are asked to complete an ED evaluation form. Salary adjustments are made based on the financial position of the organization and assuming performance warrants an increase.
