It is among the largest collection of items relating to the African Diaspora experience and this is the first catalog by an African-American bibliophile to be published by a major university. The massive volume records approximately 11,000 entries. The University Libraries hold more than one thousand manuscript and archival collections which in aggregate number more than 25 million pieces, including for instance the Philadelphia Jewish Archive and the Philadelphia Evening Bulletin collection of over 5 million photographs as well as literary manuscript collections. The libraries also hold approximately 90,000 rare books. These historical items are used for study and research by our students and faculty.
