Kusina ng Kalinga (KNK) or Care kitchen, a strategic response to hunger and malnutrition, serves thousands of nutritious vegetable-based meals prepared from community kitchens established through the collaborative efforts of parents, volunteers, local government units, schools, private individuals, organizations and corporate partners. The lunch meals are brought to the children in public schools, in communities, and in disaster and conflict areas. The kitchens in La Union, Pampanga, Mandaluyong, Bacolod, Davao and Sarangani served 114,000 meals.Reading is the foundation of learning. GK implemented a community-based learning program called Advancement in Reading and Learning (ARAL) for public school students ages 7-13 years old who receive intensive reading courses after school from trained teachers and volunteers. The package covers teacher allowances, learning materials, assessment, and meals. The Department of Education conduct assessment tests after the program. There were 1,300 students who entered the program.
