The Friends of Cetys Foundation established a $1,000,000 endowment fund to provide scholarships for students attending Sistema CETYS Universidad in Baja California, Mexico. The corpus of the endowment must be held in perpetuity in U.S. dollars at a reputable U.S. institution and cannot be spent. For the first five years, all income (including capital gains) is to be added to the corpus. After five years, up to 50% of the annual income may be used for scholarships, with any unused income added to the corpus for future years. If the funds assets exceed $3,000,000, the Finance Committee may revise the distribution policy to increase annual payout, provided the corpus is not eroded in real terms. The Finance Committee is required to establish an Investment Policy to prudently invest the corpus and ensure its real value increases, in compliance with UPMIFA and relevant probate code, unless inconsistent with donor instructions.
