<Desc>Program Service-2016In 2016 we witnessed a new level of growth and engagement from our volunteers and supporters. We held a major event bringing together 700 guests consisting of prominent members of our community, business leaders, elected officials, young professionals and our long time supporters. We continued to do work in existing countries and two new ones we added in 2015 to our portfolio: Turkey and Nepal bringing. We provided services in 12 countries, supporting close to 900 orphans. Our income exceeded $1M mark within 11 years of operation and we maintained 3 employees: Chief Executive Officer (full time), Operation Lead (part time) and Web Developer (part time). These three roles are critical in managing Givelight's operation and multiple projects/events, book keeping and website management.2016 Accomplishment by country:1. Aceh Home, Indonesia A. Our founder travelled to our Aceh home and she was so pleased to see the progress of our children. Those who were used to be shy were now more confident. Those who were lazy were now more motivated. Overall, our kids continued to grow academically, emotionally and spiritually - in school, behavior and taking bigger responsibilities. The majority of our kids were in Middle school and four went to College last year. They also won many trophies from school and from the city, in diverse areas including Math Olympics, Running, Speech competition. One of our smartest kids Samha won a full scholarship majoring in science. We are so proud of her accomplishments and are confident that she will continue to do well in College. She serves as a great role model for our younger kids.It is our commitment to send all our kids to College as long as they have the ambition and willingness to work hard. We are blessed that none of our kids had to stop education due to lack of funds. Most importantly, they all know that they have all resources they need to go far in life from examples set by our older children.B. Supporting orphans in Banda Aceh, IndonesiaWe continued to sponsor orphans who are living with poor relatives in Banda Aceh . The kids are doing well in school and some are already in high school getting ready for College in the next few years. We have a dedicated volunteer on the ground who monitors their progress. The children also send emails to our US team sharing pictures, positive progress and their live experiences.2. Pakistan/KashmirWe sponsored160 orphans who are living with poor relatives/single moms in earthquake affected areas of Pakistan and Kashmir through partnership with Helping Hands Relief and Development (HHRD). We received annual update on the kids pictures, bio and progress. Due to unstable political climate we have not been able to attract any volunteers to visit Pakistan in the recent years. We hope that will change in the near future. 3. BangladeshA. We continued to provide one meal a day for 345 orphans in Darus Sunat, Bangladesh. These children were only having two meals prior to getting help from Give Light. As we did in the prior years, at the end of holy month of Ramadan in 2016 we sponsored new clothes and received pictures showing their happiness. We received the news that the building was in need of renovation and we planned to began renovation work the following year. B. In our home in Savar, we now have 40 girls and they are of 7-14 years of age. Our goal is to establish a high quality school that will be accredited by the government. The greatest challenge has been to instill self confidence and discipline as these girls came from very poor family background and it is not uncommon for girls to be married off at a young age of 13 in Bangladesh. We want to change this condition by giving them hope and ability to dream for a bright future.4. AfghanistanWe continued to sponsor 11 orphans through partnership with Omeid International. They continue to get scholarship to study abroad in India. Many of them are now in High School and preparing for College. Many are top performers in school and have been sent as delegation for National Competition in the capital. We also hope to build a permanent home one day when political situation is more stable and if we get donate land to be consistent with our model in other countries.5. HaitiWe restarted sponsorship project in Haiti for 20 orphans through partnership with Helping Hands, a credible organization with good track record. We look forward toseeing positive growth in all the kids we are sponsoring in Haiti.6. SomaliaWe continued to sponsor 50 orphans in Somalia through partnership with Agoon Foundation and the kids are doing well academically. Through this sponsorship, those kids are fed, clothed and are able to get good education. We plan to continue this work in Somalia and a few more countries in Africa and have began our projects in Morocco and South Africa.7. Sri LankaOur founders travelled to Sri Lanka along with 3 volunteers from the US. The boys are doing well and motivated to learn. Outside of school they love to play cricket and badminton. They were so proud to showcase their talents in speech competition, singing, performing karate. Our US team took them on a trip to a beach resort, where the boys were overjoyed to swim for hours. The next day they did a lot of board games, more badminton and art activities. The kids also got to benefit from onlike/Skyp lessons provided by some MIT students who were on summer break. Unfortunately, due to poor internet connection the sessions got interrupted. We hope to restart and build on this success in the coming year.8. San Francisco Bay Area, California, United StatesWe added one more student to our local project and continued to provide scholarship mentorship and Social gatherings for orphans living in the San Francisco Bay Area. We provide each one of them with a mentor to ensure they have one on one attention. One of the activities they enjoy were being invited to lunch or dinner, so we ensure they have a gathering at least once a quarter. We also gave them new clothes and toys nased on their own preferences.9. CambodiaOur home in Cambodia is thriving with 50 children who are eager to learn. The home itself, set in a rubber plantation has lots of greenery and plants around it. The kids go to public school, which is right in front of the house. Because of the open and large space they got to enjoy playing outdoor on a daily basis. They boys who were shy to talk about themselves are nor more confident. When asked what their dreams were they used to have a sad look. Now they are confident to have big dreams of becoming doctors, engineers, lawyers and scholars. 10. MoroccoAfter a few years of working to secure the permit to build a home, we finalized the last step in the process. The land is located in the city of Oujda and the home will be a sanctuary for 40 girls. While we are doing the construction, we are also sponsoring 17 orphans in Oujda, Morocco since Jan 2013. These kids live with poor relatives and some with struggling single moms. Some kids are also already in High School and we will continue to help until they attend College.11. TurkeyOur founder and 7 volunteers travelled to Turkey last year to distribute 13500 "blankets of love" (vs 2000 objectives) to Syrian orphans and refugees. While there, our volunteers personally met with Syrian orphans and seeing where they live and how they survive with so little was heartbreaking.Since then GiveLight has launched several initiatives including: Distribution of jackets to 300 orphans Sponsoring activities and dinner for 400 orphans Sponsoring 100 orphans by sending them to school12. NepalWe are partnering with a credible organization called AMA Foundation to support 10 children in Kathmandu who were victims of the Earthquake in Nepal. Here is the excerpt from our partner Rob Sanders who spends every summer visiting the children and he has developed personal bonds with the children. He has affectionately been named Rob Brother or Rob Uncle by the children he has spent time with. On his recent trip to Ama Ghar, he wanted to do something special for our "alumni" - the older kids who have moved out of the house, but miss their Ama Ghar brothers and sisters enormously. Rob ended up taking the entire group trekking in Pokhara and the children had a fantastic time. FUTURE GOALS:Our goal for 2017-2019 is to expand our service to more countries where there are many needy orphans and we have identified trustworthy partners/volunteers.Specifically: a. Morocco. The construction has started and our goal is to complete the home by Fall 2017 or sooner.b. All other countries. We hope to standardize our processes in countries where we operate, especially in fine-tuning our operational philosophy, financial reporting and procedures as well as expansion strategies.c. Nepal. We will continue to sponsor at least 10 children and potentially mored. Turkey. We started sponsoring 100 Syrian orphans to go to school in Istanbul. Our goa</Desc>
