By facilitating four separate Charlas, which are an ongoing series of activities that promote literacy about the benefits of cooperative businesses in the Latino community, Prospera created an intimate space for business owners to share their successes and challenges with women. By developing new partnerships with the Mexican Consulate, Oakland Libraries, Vision y Compromiso, Anewamerica, El Pajaro, and Tiburcio Vazquez, Prospera was able to align, collaborate, and share resources in an effort to reach additional women interested in the cooperative business model. Prospera successfully graduated ten women from Explora tu Cooperativa, an introductory nine-hour training program where participants explore business ideas and gain basic skills in cooperative development. Prospera also successfully graduated eight Founders for a total of five promising cooperative businesses from Escuela de Fundadoras (Founders School), a comprehensive 9 -12 month training and technical assistance program to support cohorts of Latina entrepreneurs to launch a cooperative business. Businesses in the program include1.Karani Arts (BZarte) 2.Professional Eco-Cleaning 3.El Cafesito 4.Pepitos Ice Cream & Paletas 5.The Green Zone Prosperas one-year Fellowship Program focuses on leadership development for experienced Latina coop owners and entrepreneurs to become coop developers. Prospera had two women enrolled. One of the fellows was accepted to the DAWI Lideres en Accion national program and the other pursued her certification as a community coach.
