We believe change is possible in every community. We promote change through our two major program areas - advocacy and leadership. In our advocacy program we partner with leaders on the ground to fend off attacks on our community and advance protections for LGBTQ people in state legislatures, where hundreds of bills affecting our community are introduced every year. CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE ODuring 2016 we provided state groups access to the EFI Nondiscrimination Model and the State Voices VAN; created smarter strategy around passage of nondiscrimination laws that takes into account the challenges of this work; produced, distributed, and presented various reports to multiple stakeholders within and outside the LGBTQ movement regarding nondiscrimination strategy and laws; offered training in newest nondiscrimination messaging, including attacks on transgender people and "bathroom bills; implemented legislative tracking system using BillTrack50; consistently monitor LGBTQ legislation in all 50 states.In our leadership program we ensure that state equality groups build power by training strong, resilient, and adaptive leaders in sustainable organizations. During 2016, we Convened more than 200 state and national movement leaders for peer-learning, training, strategic thinking, and networking at our annual leadership conference. We convened over 50 State LGBTQ leaders for our Southern Leadership Summit (Mar/Apr) and Midwest Leadership Summit (Nov/Dec) with strong participation from states in region. We provided tailored on-site organizational development services in 8 states, at least four of which were in the Southern region.
