Measure B was approved by a resounding 71.74 percent of Santa Clara County voters, providing $6.5 billion in local funds for transportation improvements.Restoring San Francisco Bay: The Leadership Group co-led a 9-county effort to preserve and protect San Francisco Bay via the passage of Measure AA in 2016.Santa Cruz County Measure D Triumph: In 2016, co-led the 2-year effort for a traffic relief measure in Santa Cruz County. Measure D was approved by 67.77 percent of Santa Cruz County voters; it was the first Santa Cruz County transportation measure. BART to Silicon Valley: The $2B BART extension from Fremont/Warm Springs to north San Jose is under budget and ahead of its schedule, with trains now expected to be running in 2017. The Leadership Group led the successful ballot measure campaigns in 2000 and 2008 that raised the funds to make the extension possible.Permanent Federal R&D Tax Credit: In 2016, the Tax Policy Committee worked to secure the permanency of the federal research and development tax credit so that businesses can continue to invest in research and the development of new innovative products and services.Defeat of Local Tax Measures: Also in 2016, the Tax Policy Committee successfully advocated against tax measures in eight bay area cities that would unfairly leverage taxes against businesses and employers in the region.Housing: In 2016, the Housing and Community Development Committee endorsed a total of 12 developments in 8 different jurisdictions leading to 5,688 new homes for our region.Data Privacy: The Tech and Innovation Committee successfully opposed AB 1681, a bill which would have required smart phone decryption capabilities. We met with all members or their staff regarding the bill, and expressed formal opposition. Additionally, the Committee hosted NSA Director, Adm. Mike Rogers, for a select CEO roundtable. We were able to provide a forum for discussing how the government works with private companies to balance security with privacy.Scientific Research Funding: The Tech and Innovation Committee met with over 20 Congressional representatives and staff regarding the importance of early-stage research funding, and its relation to our Innovation Economy.
