Typically three scholarships are awarded and the winners are chosen on a competitive basis only and without regard to family financial circumstances or financial aid. All 8th grade students entering 9th grade can compete for these scholarships. They must meet the Lycee's requirements for participation, write qualifying essays and participate in an interview with the Merit Scholarship Committee, a committee composed of administrators and teachers. All three Lycee Merit Scholarship winners are chosen from a group of candidates who first qualified by meeting specific academic requirements: in 7th and 8th grade, have consistently good grades and have shown exemplary conduct. Students applying must also complete the application that includes biographical and extra curriculum information as well as two essays written by the student. Eligible candidates are interviewed by the Merit Scholarship Committee who chose the winners by evaluating academic records, significant activities inside and outside the Lycee. Each Merit Scholarship represents 50% of the school year tuition. This amount is directly deducted from the student's tuition fees. The scholarship is awarded for the duration of the student's high school career provided he or she remains in good academic and disciplinary standing.
