CAFTA celebrated its first year in 2016, witnessing tremendous growth and success. CAFTA received 37 applications for legal referral in 2016 and made 15 attorney-client referrals for pro bono assistance. CAFTA maintained a 100% referral rate for all eligible applications. CAFTAs database of volunteer attorneys continues to grow, as word spreads statewide about this valuable service and pro bono opportunity. CAFTA also hosted eight professional development sessions in 2016 aimed at expanding the arts-related legal literacy of Colorado creative professionals and attorneys.Night At distributes free tickets to cultural events through CBCA Member companies and their employees. Night At events offer access to unique cultural opportunities, while helping to build new audiences for local arts organizations. In 2016, members enjoyed free tickets to the following events: dress rehearsal of All the Way at Denver Center for the Performing Arts; after-hours tours at Clyfford Still Museum; private screening of the documentary Amy at Denver Film Society; dress rehearsal of Bless Me, Ultima at Su Teatro; admission to sculpture exhibit at Denver Botanic Gardens; showcase of local independent music; tickets to childrens theater at Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities; and admission to Zoo Lights at Denver Zoo. There was an additional event for CBCA Patron Members, which was a dress rehearsal of Phamaly Theatre Companys Evita. Combined, CBCA provided 1,783 free tickets to our members, their employees and guests in 2016. On My Own Time (OMOT) are facilitated employee art exhibitions. CBCA assists companies in mounting their own employee art show. CBCA also provides professional judges, top prizes and technical support throughout the whole program. CBCA facilitates OMOT every other year, so there were no OMOT art shows in 2016. 100216 Community AwarenessEconomic Activity Study of Metro Denver Culture is a biennial study that demonstrates the financial and social impact of the arts on our region. CBCA published the latest study in October 2016 using data collected in 2015 from nearly 300 arts, cultural and scientific organizations funded by the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) in the seven counties of the metro area: Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas and Jefferson. This Economic Activity Study examines key metrics such as audience spending, operating expenditures, cultural tourism, jobs, philanthropy, attendance and volunteerism. CBCA released the 2016 Economic Activity Study with a breakfast event in early October. This event was attended by over 500 community leaders. There were live performances from Fiesta Colorado and one of the DCPAs Bobby G Award Winners. Speakers represented a wide variety of arts organizations and local businesses, such as PACE Center in Parker, Mexican Cultural Center, Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, College of Arts & Media at CU Denver, Cleo Parker Robinson Dance and Denver Botanic Gardens. Governor John Hickenlooper also provided remarks on the importance of this study and the role of arts as an economic driver. CBCA continued the roll-out the new study with presentations to boards and community groups, such as SCFD Board of Directors, Aurora Chamber of Commerces Business for the Arts Committee, Denver Commission on Cultural Affairs, Arvada Centers Board of Directors, Rotary Club in Westminster, Denver Public Library reference staff, and the Leadership Jefferson County class. Media coverage included CBS4 television interview, Westword, The Denver Post, Denver Business Journal, Colorado Public Radio, Colorado Business Roundtables Connect & Collaborate radio show, and other local news outlets.The 2016 Economic Activity Study was a vital advocacy tool in support of reauthorization of the SCFD. The Denver metro citizens voted to approve the reauthorization of SCFD in November, 2016.Leadership Arts is a unique nine month training program that prepares people to serve on nonprofit boards and increase their civic engagement in the arts. Leadership Arts educates, inspires and equips professionals from all sectors to be effective community leaders. The program meets monthly from September through May for half a day. Sessions are hosted at a various cultural venues including Cleo Parker Robinson Dance, Su Teatro, Swallow Hill Music and Art Students League of Denver. Expert speakers present on topics such as strategic planning, advocacy, governance, fundraising, legal issues and current issues in the arts. The annual Board Fair was hosted at Lakewood Cultural Center and attended by over 40 cultural nonprofits from across the metro area.Leadership Arts 2015-2016 graduated 45 individuals representing a variety of business sectors and career levels. In September 2016, CBCA welcomed our largest Leadership Arts class ever with 57 participants. To date, CBCA has graduated over 700 people who have gone on to serve in hundreds of volunteer leadership positions along the Front Range. The 2016-2017 cohort will also be the 20th Anniversary class when they graduate in May, 2017. Leadership Arts Alumni Network (LAAN) connects graduates of CBCAs Leadership Arts program to each other and various aspects of the arts community. In 2016, LAAN launched a subscription series with four quarterly happy hour events. These events were hosted at Colorado Ballet, Footers Catering, the rooftop of the Denver Museum Residences and the Dikeou Collection. The board also evaluates the performance of the Organization as a whole as a result of the Director's leadership in terms of meeting its objectives for the prior year.
