The Gate support teens in making wise choices in their daily lives by providing relevant services to them in collaboration with other community resources. It is a place where youth are known as individuals, encouraged to grow and learn and encounter unconditional love. 0 0 2792 0 0 Thursdays at The Gate - Thursdays at The Gate is a recreational and social component of The Gate/Central High School After-school Program collaboration. From 3:15 to 6:00, 40 to 60 students gather in a church multipurpose room across from the high school that is transformed into a recreation and learning area. Snacks are available throughout the afternoon and a free dinner is served at 5:00. Volunteer staff from the local college and the greater community, interact with and mentor the students as they socialize, seek advice and play indoor and outdoor games. Tutoring and computer use is available on site. Additionally cooking, crafting and leadership classes and opportunities are accessible to the students. This free program is funded through a work/study grant and The Gate Youth Association. 0 0 0 After School Tutoring - The Gate provides volunteer tutors/mentors to work with students in the Central High School library Tuesdays through Thursdays from 3:15 until 5:30. Many students participate in this homework help program for four years and several students graduated again this year as a direct result of the this program. This school year close to half of the school population used this program that allows access to all library resources until 5:30 every night. An additional emphasis is placed on post high school preparation. Students received help with job searches and applications as well as assistance with resumes, letters of recommendation, scholarship applications and college essays. 12912 0 6965 High School Lunch - Tuesday Lunch is a lunch prepared by community and parent volunteers for 130 high school students and staff every Tuesday. During the 30 minute lunch period, participants walk across the street to a "teen comfort food" lunch , a short inspirational talk, and an inviting and affirming environment where they are known, encouraged and experience the love of Christ. The ten lunch moms served as mentors to many students this year, some being teen parents, some struggling with problems at home, some triple sport athletes and some honor students. The program, celebrating its 25th year is funded through customer receipts and generous donors. 13164 0 0 Access Community Youth Group - On Thursday evenings The Gate provides a traditional youth group including games, Bible study and worship. This group is available to unchurched youth as well as those attending any church in the community.
