Part III, Col (c): Central America & The Caribbean: 66% of blindness in Guatemala is due to cataracts and 75% is treatable. During the first three years the clinic in Guatemala treated 450 patients and performed 70 surgeries. Since the purchase of the new equipment, the clinic now treats over 1,000 patients and performs 50 cataract surgeries every week. North America: A water filtration unit was installed at a water bottling plant in Nayarit, Mexico. The site serves an agricultural community of over 6,500 people. The unit will provide clean drinking water for a fraction of the cost of other bottled water.
