We had the intention to request an extension of three additional months until May 15, 2017. When we looked for the application form in the IRS web page we noted that the IRS had changed the form and now six months automatic extensions are allowed. We proceeded to use this form which was submitted on February 9, prior to the expiration date that we had already approved in the first extension requested (February 15, 2017). This extension was not approved because the "postmark date was later than the return due date". We asked for a reconsideration because the postmark date was February 9, prior to the due date. We are waiting for the IRS answer to our reconsideration.
