In 2016, our primary focus was a program called Q4KIDZ, through which we texted free, creative questions to parents. These daily questions helped parents to connect with their children, to reinforce social-emotional growth, and to spark critical thinking. In addition to creative questions, ParentsTogether also shared resources about issues of importance to families, such as food insecurity and family leave, and we encouraged parents bring kids to vote and role-model engagement in our democracy. Form 990, Part V, Lines 2a & b, Part VII, Part IX Compensation & Benefits: The Foundation reimburses certain staffing costs to an unrelated organization based upon actual payroll costs. The unrelated paying organization files all required federal employment returns for those employees. The number of forms reported on the Foundation's 990 represent the numbers of forms it would have filed if employing these individuals directly in addition to the employment forms that it has filed directly. Similarly, all reimbursed payroll costs are reported for applicable individuals in Part VII, Section A and Part IX, lines 5-10. Form 990, Part VI, Section A, line 8b There are currently no committees with authority to act on behalf of the Board. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 11b The Director of Finance works with the external preparer to complete the 990. The Executive Director reviews the submission, and he then submits it to the Board Treasurer for final approval. A complete copy of the form is then provided to the full board prior to filing the 990 with the IRS. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 12c On an annual basis, board members sign a document acknowledging that they received the conflict of interest policy and agree to comply with all of its terms. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 15 The Foundation used the same process to determine compensation for Executive Director, Justin Ruben, who serves on the board and was compensated through the reimbursement arrangement described above, and Bethany Robertson, Chief Innovation Officer and President of the Board. 1) Staff prepared a Compensation Comparables memo for the Board of Directors which legal counsel reviewed and approved; this memo included analysis of compensation for similar positions in the individual's geographic area as well as relative compensation at peer organizations; 2) A Board Resolution was prepared for each individual's compensation, detailing the total compensation; 3) The Board of Directors (excluding the compensated director) voted on each individual's compensation package after reviewing the Compensation Comparables memo; 4) These documents were all filed in our corporate records.
