A generous lead grant from the Elton John AIDS Foundation allowed Equality California Institute to significantly expand its HIV work in 2016 in two areas. The organization also launched a statewide campaign to educate the LGBTQ community on the availability and benefits of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), shown to be 99-percent effective in preventing new HIV infections. The campaign targeted gay and bisexual men and transgender women, especially from communities of color. The organization also conducted voter registration and voter education within the LGBTQ community. 405578 3500 With the continued support of The California Endowment and funding from Gilead Sciences, Inc., we expanded our Health Happens with Equality trainings to educate healthcare providers about the health needs of LGBTQ people, with a special focus on the LGBTQ undocumented community and HIV prevention and care.
