Since 1880, the organization has entertained several generations of individuals in various concert halls, public parks, schools, churches and elsewhere. Nearly 250,000 people attend live music presentations every year; with an additional 430,000 (estimated) listening to the Symphony via radio, internet and television broadcasts. In addition to the concerts at Powell Hall, more than one-third of the organization's audiences hear musicians perform at parks, schools, churches and other venues throughout the region. In addition, more than 17% of the total audience for all the performances during the year pays little or nothing to hear those performances. The organization's best-known educational program is its series of education concerts in Powell Hall, which began in the 1920s and today serve over 23,400 students annually. In addition to educating and entertaining youngsters at Powell Hall, the staff and musicians make over 80 visits to local schools each season. Many of these visits occur through the E.
